Great follow up to Legacy of the Lightning! It was an issue that really made me feel sorry a bit for what Barry has been through recently and this new status quo is off to a good start.
As for the covers...I can't decide which one I like better. The coloring of the lightning in the first cover is very cool and really makes the cover pop but I love the whole vibration effects for Reverse Flash on the second one. Loved that when Scott Kollins did that for Zoom in DCU and I'm glad it's showing up sometimes here for Reverse Flash.
Good work!

Absolutley the best way to follow up such an emotionally packed arc. I thought the use of Jay in first person was perfect and the fact that Kansas is starting to feel like a "Marvel" state is very interesting. Jay's thoughts on the difference between the life of Flash (and Central/Keyston City) and that of Batman (and Gotham City) was a great comparisson. If this is the new direction that the book is going in, I'm really on board. No way could I choose between those covers. Both have their own unique brand on it. And let me end my continued praise on this book with what is now running through my head. "Who can take a sunrise, sprinkle it with dew...? Thanks for that!

As if things weren't bad enough already... Nice way for Wolfe to make himself look like a good guy in the aftermath of this. Thanks to last issue, I knew Barry would be back in a month, but still, reading this and seeing the situation get worse and worse, I kept thinking in the back of my head, "C'mon, Flash, hurry up, you've got to get home and fix this!" I'm slightly biased, but I liked the small contributions Max made this issue. The "Zen Master of the Speed Force" begins to live up to his moniker...and bonds with lil' Bart! Awwwww!

Great follow up to Legacy of the Lightning! It was an issue that really made me feel sorry a bit for what Barry has been through recently and this new status quo is off to a good start. Thanks as always for the kind words, Pat! Yeah, poor Barry's been through a lot- but the thing about being the Fastest Man Alive is that life has a habit of never slowing down for you! Glad you like the new status quo- we'll be seeing a lot more of it in the days to come! I know what you mean. This was a really last minute rush to get those covers (No-one's fault but my own) and to see not one but two teams deliver such fantastic covers in such a short period of time is brilliant! I particularly love that both manage to get a different emotional response despite showing the same basic content- one with the focus on Barry's grief, the other with a pretty damn intimidating Reverse Flash! I have to thank Charlie on that one- I wasn't sure it would work, but he was adamant that it was the right choice, and I'm very happy with how that turned out! That's an interesting way to put it, and not an incorrect one at that. Ironically enough, this new status quo- which was concieved waaay back along with 'LotL' in the first half of 2008- has actually paralleled some Marvel things- JJJ's rise to power, the whole 'everyone is Peter Parker' thing. The truth is, no hero at either company- not even Superman, not even the Fantastic Four, is quite so universally beloved as the Flash is in his home cities. So, cruel person that I am, I wanted to take that away from him. And of course, the unmasking adds a whole new dimension to it, making it even worse for him! But I know the great question that plagues all minds; why Kansas (With Keystone) and not Missouri (With Central)? And the answer is two-pronged; Firstly, because Kansas is a more conservative state and with Wolfe's law and order background, that seemed the logical choice for him... and secondly because originally, as we all know, Barry was originally based purely in Central City, so it was a nod. (On a note for the ultra-picky, I am fully aware that both states are in fact governed by the Democratic Party right now in real life, but this is DC, not Marvel, okay!? ) I'm glad to have you all the way, Brian! I also want to take a moment to note that I have no desire to write Flash as a 'Batman' book. Barry Allen is not Bruce Wayne, the Twin Cities are not Gotham, the Rogues are not the Bat-Villains, and frankly, I think they'll all much more interesting than the Caped Crusader anyway. This will remain quite definitely the Flash. Whether or not that means it will get darker or brighter for Barry, of course, remains to be seen! 'Things can only get better' certainly comes to mind. Unfortunately, these songs have a nasty habit of being inaccurate... The seeds for which were all planted back in issue #26, true believers, just so you don't think I copied Marvel with JJJ! ...I've been wanting to write that for a long, long time. The world definitely went to hell without him... unfortunately, as we all know too well, it was also going to hell with him near the end... Some things even Barry can't fix. Guess we'll see if this is one of them! If you liked that, then you should love some of the upcoming stuff. Remember way back when Max was brought back in issue #24 and I talked about wanting to use him a lot? But then 'Legacy' put him to the side for a while? Well, let's just say Max has a BIG part in the Flash moving forward. ;D Thanks for your praise, Susan, as with so much feedback here on the DC2, it's all the more gratifying from someone who is such a fantastic writer themselves!

This issues was great, poor Speedsters, particularly Barry, he just gets back and he has to deal with this and now he's probably lost his job as well. I hope they all remain close and the scene with Max and Bart was brilliant.
Bart is starting to come into his powers it seems which if true will make things harder for everyone. I hope Wally is okay? and brilliant how you brought in other reactions outside of their own speedsters group via Superman and the others contacting them, it shows how they are all connected as a group who care about each other.

... And the stellar run continues! It's hard to top last issue, but this quiet little story of the fall-out of the huge storyline is exactly what was needed at this point. This is one of those occassions when "everything changes" (and it does!) and this issue gives us a breather to appreciate just exactly how different things are going to be.
Jay Garrick was the perfect POV character for this piece, and you have portrayed him brilliantly (I suppose I should resent the fact that you are writing a better Jay than I am right now--- but I'm having too much fun reading him in this title ;D. Can I salve my ego and assume the bit about Jay kissing Joan in superspeed and whispering to her was inspired by the epilogue of my All-Star Comics Annual #1...?). But--- and while I never quite jumped on the Rogues bandwagon--- this issue is a prime example of why Captain Cold is an intriguing anti-villain (to coin a phrase) and a character almost as compelling as the lead speedsters!
There are some unprecedentedly tough times ahead for the Flash, and Jay's comment about shockwaves is the perfect coda to the story. But Barry is the guy that overcomes tragedy. I feel sad for him and Iris, but there is a certain "rightness" about Carrie's fate. We are where we are meant to be, and despite Warden Wolfe's crusade, and the renewed committment of the Rogues, Barry is going to continue to define heroism (and family!) in the DC2!
Both covers were awesome! Though neither of them appeared in this issue, the spectre of the Reverse-Flash looming over an unmasked Barry is really at the heart of everything that has happened. Top marks to both covers!
Another five star issue! Bring on #34, and be quick about it!

This issues was great, poor Speedsters, particularly Barry, he just gets back and he has to deal with this and now he's probably lost his job as well. I hope they all remain close and the scene with Max and Bart was brilliant. Yup, it's far from the best thing for Barry to come back to. Glad you liked the Max scene, you'll see plenty more of him in upcoming months! For Bart- Time will tell! And as for Wally, well, as seen both here and over in the ever-wonderful Teen Titans, poor Wally's physical wounds may not be as great as the mental beating he took in 'Legacy of the Lightning'. Thanks, and thanks for all your generous feedback! I feel one of the best things about the DC2 is that we aren't being forced to tie in to crossovers meaninglessly and that allows books to tell their own, independent stories. That said, there comes a time when operating in total isolation robs it of some impact, and that's why Clark was there and why Jay and I have synched up The Flash and Teen Titans to some extent in recent months. I'm glad you enjoyed the breather, because if there's one book that doesn't sit still for long, it's always going to be The Flash! Well, I think that last point is highly debateable with the high quality work you've always done with Golden Age characters, but thanks for the compliment! As I said, it was Charlie who persuaded me to go with using Jay in first person, and I'm very glad he did! Yes and no; No because I'm ashamed to admit I hadn't read the Annual before! Yes, though, because you beat me to the punch there and they fit together so well that we clearly have similar ideas about Jay! (For the record, my inspiration was the scene in 'Blitz' where Jay tips his hat and smiles to everyone he rescues at super-speed) I now have a new mission for my Flash run; Bring you on the Rogues bandwagon! Quite a few wheels are in motion now, or will be soon, and the Rogues are one of the most important- You're absoloutely right; Carrie didn't 'die' in Legacy of the Lightning- she lives out a full, happy, contented life, albeit one without Barry and Iris. So there's a duel-edged sword there- yes, they underwent tragedy, yes, they will never see their daughter again, but they also guaranteed her a good life, and that's a great comfort to them. I think if Carrie had died, Barry would be a different person- and it wouldn't be The Flash... The brighter the light, the darker the shadow. Well now Twin Cities have an awful dark shadow, and it's up to the Flashes to cast a light to match it! And as for family, well, the nature of the Flash Family in particular is something that will be heavily featured in upcoming issues! Yes, sir! At once, sir! ...Thanks for your kind words as always, Dave. And this brings me to one final announcement; Although I've been clear in recent months about my plans to leave The Flash, circumstances have changed and... well, I'll be sticking around the book for a while longer. (Unless Dan finally loses patience and turns into a Red Lantern!) If you've enjoyed it (And I hope you have), then hopefully this news isn't unwelcome, and if you haven't- well, sorry! But there are three things that'll keep me here for a bit longer; 1) I'm not nearly done yet! I still have more stories to tell! 2) Brian. He knows why. This is all his fault. 3) The fantastic level of feedback, which has really inspired me to keep on writing! So thank you all! See you in '28, true believers!

This was pretty good. After the epic, dramatic, wring your neck in suspense, issues that we've been getting for the last few issues, it was good to slow down. Plus, like any good story after a big event, it was a wide berthed "aftermath" type thing, that didn't even need the main character to pull it together. Bravo.

A fitting epilogue of sorts to the cracking "Legacy of the Lightning" arc. Loved everything about this, loved the subtle plot laying, loved the progression of time as it went by, loved the Jay Garrick POV voice (I refuse to take credit for it), and the final moments... all in all, this was a great capper for that run, and shows that whatever momentum (I can't help myself) you've got going Kevin is in no way diminished by the finale of LotL.
Until next time...

This was pretty good. After the epic, dramatic, wring your neck in suspense, issues that we've been getting for the last few issues, it was good to slow down. It was- but it won't last for long! Barry never can catch a break, can he? And, well, if certain rumblings and forummers' signatures are to be believed, peace isn't what lies on Barry's immediate horizons... 'LotL' began with an issue without Barry, so I felt it made a nice capper to finish on an issue without Barry. Thanks for your kind words, rap! Cracking? From a Brit, I'll take that as top notch praise, old sport! It's not about taking it, it's being forced onto you. Hopefully, I can build on that as the series continues and deals more fully with the ramifications of the story, spinning them on to whatever may come next! Thanks, as always, for your editing and your praise, bossman!
