I've been getting this question alot: "I have this story for the Teen Titans (or JLA/Batman/Superman, etc), where Superboy, Wondergirl and Cyborg fight Brother Blood..."
Well, the problem with a proposal like this is, DC2 has its own continuity that does not necessarily mirror the DCU's. We have chosen a simpler, more classical and less cluttered approach to the characters and situations of Batman, Superman and the JLA, a kind of modern day Silver Age:
Hal Jordan is Green Lantern
Dick Grayson is Robin (well, for a brief time, at least)
and Carter Hall is the once and future Hawkman.
The mission statement of the DC2, to give the fans an opportunity to write their favorite titles, is always paramount, however there must be a starting point to give those fans a foundation to build upon--- thus the Issues 0, laying out the canon DC2 continuity for all titles.
So, to the fan writer in the above example, unfortunately his proposal wouldn't work here yet because the Teen Titans are Robin (Dick Grayson), Kid Flash (Wally West), Wonder Girl (Donna Troy), Speedy (Roy Harper), Raven and Starfire. This is not to say that there will not be a place for Tim Drake, Bart Allen, Cassie Sandsmark or Mia Dearden, but we had to start somewhere, and the more traditional approach will offer our writers and artists a universe of opportunities from which to draw upon.
In deciding upon DC2 continuity, we have not diverged significantly from that of the DCU, and we will always honor and respect the tradition and history of those iconic characters, but there are subtle changes that will differentiate us from our inspiration (the most notable being the role of Captain Marvel in the DC2, which I feel is a logical and necessary retcon DC should consider taking!), and we on the editorial staff will safeguard that zealously! Please note: nothing has been altered gratuitously! These are still the characters and teams we have read and loved all these years!
So, I hope this clears some things up, and keep those submissions coming!
