Wow!
What a way to ratchet up the action and tension! This issue earned the title of this event honestly--- the Justice League really got proactive on this one!
I'm trying not to spoil anything, so suffice to say there was more than one "Yeahbuwha---?" moments in this issue (one of which the magnificent cover reveals).
As always, this was masterful writing by Ellen! I simply don't read enough of her stuff. Probably the most underrated writer we have, so I was overjoyed to see that this issue had her name on it. Her characterizations were spot on, and her trademark dialogue as sparkling as ever.
I am on the edge of my seat; I can't wait to see where the story goes from here.

It did help that this year, there was plenty of info available in the DC2 back issues to assist me with characterization. Last year was more of a challenge for me because we were introducing several main characters in the pages of Apoklips Imperative. Well we're both in the same boat on that one! But it's gonna be great, I'm sure!

If anyone combines the comic book form and beautiful, lyrical prose, it's got to be Ellen (stick that on the back of your as-yet-unpublished-unknown-fictional piece!). I wish my installement could have been as strong as this one (writing the beginning is HARD!) and I'm glad that if anyone shows me up, it's Ellen. Because I can understand that

Intense and Disturbing. If we didn't know the League were the good guys, it would look bad indeed, infiltrating the White House and taking out Lord. Shades of Revenge of the Sith here!
Flash made the right choice, but his timing was wrong; you turn yourself in AFTER Starro is beaten. Of course, the story wouldn't be half so cool that way. Nice Wally reference....though I'm not sure he'd want to have a "friendly chat" with Bruce!
Do Faraday and his friends really think they can control Starro? Well, I know, of course, and the truth is....*gets dragged around the coarner by men in black.*

I actually haven't seen Revenge of the Sith. Flash is just that stubbornly moral... Probably not. But of all the people in that bunker with Barry, only ONE of them has ANY experience with teenaged boys. Glad you liked!

I've been waiting to comment on this issue! Ellen did an outstanding job on part two of this event. When I read this in advanced, I was holding my breath the entire time, and I knew what was going to happen. After a couple of times of passing out, I stopped holding my breath. David is correct when he says that Ellen is one of the most underrated writers on this site. If anyone deserves to be writing for DC proper, it is this wonderful lady, and the fact that she took the second part of this story, ran with it in her own indomitable style, and made it shine like a bright star, is just more proof that his young lady can write just about anything! Five stars! And a personal thank you for being part of this event. I was proud and excited to be working with you. I also want to say that this was another great cover, with awesome coloring. And if you are reading this, Riz. This hangs in my bedroom, right along with the other three. Very special gifts, that I will treasure forever.

You have to exhale periodically... sheesh! ;D (blush). I still need to be able to pace a script so it runs 22 pages including art... and this particular story played to my strengths. Amen! Great cover!

This was a joy to read. The text just rolled off the screen effortlessly. Ellen you make it look so darn easy!
This event is really starting to build up, I can hardly wait to see what happens next!
Borize and Jrfan created a really powerful cover. Well done both of you.

This was a joy to read. The text just rolled off the screen effortlessly. Ellen you make it look so darn easy! Trust me... it's like ballet dancing. The audience sees graceful floating on stage. Behind the scenes, there are a lot of blisters, sprains, and agonizing pain. One thing I will point out though: detailed floor plans and even virtual tours of the White House are available online. And I had those on printout and in popup windows as I was writing. Glad you liked!

Wow. If they could DC needs to be looking at this "event" as a how to do it manual. Bits are revealed as we go along, so that were not dragged along to the end. Each chapter, though different is great and intregal to the story. Only two issues in and we have a purpose instead of it being all about the "figure it out". It's part action, part intrigue, part mystery, part morality play. It's all there. My favorite line was Hal's observation of Batman. This was another great issue. David is right on the characterization is absolutely beautiful. Diana stopping to admire the painting! BRILLIANT! The cover is one of the best covers I've seen. Another lesson DC could learn. This cover evokes an emotional response. It tells a story and makes me want to read the story. It's only two hands in handcuffs but look at it! Hello! Awesome! Put me down for a dozen! Roy

Thanks! One issue I have with a team book is that certain characters of necessity are going to get more 'air' time. There are some JLA members I know better and am more comfortable with (Batman, Superman), some that were integral to the story/plot and thus got a bit of the spotlight (Flash, Atom, Martian Manhunter) and some that I knew had to be there and needed something to do beyond spout off some generic interchangeable lines (GL, Wonder Woman, Hawkman).
Glad the little stuff caught your eye!

I liked the story, but I think I was a little too tired when I read it. Somehow I can't remember half of the things I read ;D But I remember that I liked it and that I have to read it again when the whole mini is finished. I also want to say that this was another great cover, with awesome coloring. And if you are reading this, Riz. This hangs in my bedroom, right along with the other three. It was a pleasure to color this cover. Thanks for the kind words, guys. And yes Esther you're pretty special and I'm just glad I know you before you become all rich and famous. Eh maybe not so much the rich part...

If I may steal from the late, great Frank Zappa, Great Googely Moogely!
Big White House invasion, Barry turning himself in and King Faraday laying the foundations of Checkmate. Not the best story as it's an early/middle part, but still enjoyable.
What happened to what I assume are the Bat-villains?

I dunno. I wasn't sure they had much place in a JLA story...

What I mean is that I expected that small bit in the storyline to be expanded upon, but this was more about the big advancement of the League actuall making an "attack" on the President. Still good story.

The bit in the storyline about what you assume to be the Bat-villains will get expanded upon in issue 3.

OK so I sat down to read this just for the story instead of wondering how I was going to follow it.
It was freaking great. You dropped the Justice League inside the White House and they instantly went into badass mode.
The pacing was spot on and every character was strong and in 'character' every step of the way. The scenes in the White House were great. The research you put in paid off in full because I could see the story unfold like I was watching it on a screen. I remember some time back you said you struggled when writing action scenes. It seems now you are way past that as the action was intense and the intrigue was monstrous!
Ellen, you definitely deserve all of the good press you receive on this site as well as any of the other sites you grace with your stories. It was a real treat to see you strut your stuff with the big guns!
I forgot to mention how much I loved the cover to #1 from Borize and Ramon. This cover from Borize and jrfan was so cool and powerful and like #1 would draw me to the shelf and pick up the book.
Great job guys and gals! Great job!

You dropped the Justice League inside the White House and they instantly went into badass mode. (blush!) Thanks! Whew! I am so glad you think so. Thank-you! The struggle IS still there, btw, but it's more psychological. As in still feeling a need to psych myself up. Thank-you so much! Seriously speaking, you and Brian laid most of the groundwork. I would've been lost without it. Thanks again!
