Powers and Abilities: Shiera possesses an Nth metal amulet forged in ancient times of the extraterrestrial substance by the Egyptian Prince Khufu for his beloved Chay-Ara. The amulet not only allows her to defy gravity, but protects her against the elements, and enhances her strength and senses. The psycho-receptive properties of the Nth metal has contributed in part to the unending of cycle of reincarnation that she shares with Carter Hall.

History: Shiera Saunders grew up dreaming of a man she had never seen before. Believing him a fantasy, she never expected to come face to face with him, nor that such a meeting would revive memories in her millennia old.

She always knew that she would marry Cal “Cave” Carson, her childhood sweetheart, and a man she had fallen out of love with long before he ever proposed to her. Channeling her passion into her singing, Shiera became the darling of the Lyric Opera in Gotham, and at the tender age of 21, embarked on a European tour in 1938 with only her cousin, Speed, as chaperone.

She concluded the tour in Alexandria, Egypt, to resounding acclaim, in a production of Aida, joining her betrothed there who was on an archaeological dig. It was in Alexandria that Shiera met the incarnation of the man who hunted her dreams, Carter Hall, a handsome archaeologist and longtime friend of Cave Carson. The two instantly recognized each other as the missing piece in each other’s souls, the reincarnations of the ancient Egyptan Prince Khufu Ma-at Kha-Taar and his beloved Chay-Ara. Nor was their meeting an accident, for they met in every life, loved and died, pursued by the curse of their immortal enemy, Khufu’s nemesis Hath-Set, who was in this lifetime the wealthy financier Anton Hastor.

But this time, they triumphed over the evil machinations of the ancient villain. Carter Hall unearthed the tomb of the long-dead lovers, and taking the Nth Metal artifacts it was his destiny to wield, he became Hawkman and rescued Shiera from Hastor.

The aftermath of all the revelations in Egypt left Shiera in some confusion. But Cave released her from their engagement, and allowed her to face her true feelings. And while Shiera has not yet donned the wings of Hawkgirl, she knows that Carter holds a second Nth Metal amulet for her, for that inevitable day when they will take to the sky and soar together again.
