I just wanted to take a moment to thank Ellen for editing this two-parter, what with me being a rather trying writer (just ask Mark, he'll warn the prospective editors out there ), and both Ellen and Imari for letting me have a little time to play in this great sandbox that is Dick Grayson's title. If you're ever looking for more fill-in issues, I'll be happy to make a second go at it. Take care Don

You're NOT a trying writer! I'm a nit-picker! Seriously, good job! And also, a tip of the hat to the cover art team. It looks fantastic!

Oh, that was clever. Loved the reveal of Nightwing's identity, and the implication behind that, and the characterization of Tut was a joy to read. I've enjoyed your short run on this title Don, and I hope you get to come back to it some time! There were some joyous moments inside this issue, the interrogation of the driver, the description of Dick!Nightwing from Fake!Nightwing. All of it just worked. Bravo, sir.

First thought, it's kind of appropriate that the cover artists got the "wrong" costume for the "wrong" Nightwing. Fits him well, in the final analysis.
It's also damn clever that Don has taken a silly Burt Ward/Adam West tv-show era villain and made him serious, and given him a psychotic hard edge. "Nightwing" may not return, but I think King Tut very well may. And nobody will laugh at him. Nobody at all.

Great issue. I have to agree with Jay that you've made Tut a very interesting and "real" character. It takes a skilled writer to do that, and you got a TON of that!
I don't know if the line about Dick needing a glass of water after talking like Batman was a nod to the newest movie or not, but it made me laugh out loud since that's exactly how I felt after watching Dark Knight!
This was solid. VERY solid, and you appreciation for who Dick is both with and without the cowl is very well illustrated here. Great story from beginning to end.
And I would also like to say that this is one of the coolest covers I've seen in a long time. Excellent work!

Thanks, people. It was great to work on a character I've long enjoyed reading, and do hope to do some more in the future. But for now, I'm happy to take my curtain call with this two-parter. I'm glad Tut came across as real and serious and a threat, and I'm glad that "Fakewing" came across as a legitimate and interesting character. I had a lot of fun writing those character moments that will give Dick lots to chew over in the hands of the regular bat-crew, and I appreciate getting a look into their plans and getting a chance to offer my own small portion of the bridge that will carry our hero across the bridge into this new era.
As for the cover, a great job done for certain. And the costume was dead on, exactly the version of the costume I described (and pictured) Geoff wearing, and they captured it great. And yeah, Tut looks scary on the cover, I don't know how the hell that happened. LOL
And I'm curious to see if anyone can spot the various in-jokes and easter eggs bouncing around in this issue.
Take care Don

Great job, Don! I read this right after it posted, but now's the first free minute I have to reply...
I loved it! If I'm honest, I'll have to admit that I had to wonder how the story would turn out when I saw that you had Tut, etc. You'll have to forgive me-- I'm still recovering from reading Twilight-- mushy vampires with corny lines like, "I love you but I can't get too close... I might go to caress your cheek and accidentally crush your skull!" So I wondered about mummies running 'round Gotham.
But happily, I was wrong-- very wrong-- and couldn't wait for the second part after I'd finished the first! Your Nightwing was great! *jealous*
Overall, a wonderful job... and I would LOVE to see you come back to the title again!

Well as you now know, there were no mummies harmed in the making of this two-parter. glad you enjoyed the story and any time you need a fill-in, feel free to ask. And I look forward to seeing where you take Dick next, it's been a great ride so far. It does occur to me, however, that you and others may not know who we old fogeys are talking about in regards to King Tut. So below is a wonderful clip of the great villain in action, from the Sixties Batman series. If you pay close attention to the credits, my little in-joke will be revealed as well, I'm thinking. King Tut was the most popular of the criminals on the series made explicitly for the series, by the by, appearing in five stories. Enjoy this taste of nostalgia and thanks a whole ton for the compliments. Take care Don

Don,
Great job! Though it would have been interesting to watch Dick struggle to train two burgeoning vigilantes, I love the way the Fakewing and King Tut storyline wrapped up. It's been a joy working with you on GL, and it's great to see you work with another of my favorite characters.
