COuld you tell me a little more about: JL Dark, Stormwatch, and Demon Knights and what these are about, and what is interesting you in these? As an example, I was considering Demon Knights, but know nothing about it, so I backed off.

Not that anyone cares but here is the full rundown and what I feel on them:
Justice League: I'm sure the art will be nice but I don't care. JLI: I can't believe I'm saying this but no Winick. No buy. Aquaman: Meh. Probably a pariah for saying that... Wonder Woman: Still haven't forgiven them for giving Simone the boot. The Flash: Wally is my Flash not the guy who should have stayed dead Fury of Firestorm: I'll give this a try Captain Atom: LOATHE J.T. Krul. I won't be touching this. Green Arrow: See above. Savage Hawkman: Undecided on this one. I'm sure the art will be good DC Universe Presents: I'll be buying this one. Mister Terrific: I'll give this one a few issues to try to grab me. Action Comics: I'll give this one a try but I'm not sold on it. Superman: I really don't like the new costume. Not buying it. Supergirl: Buying. Sad that they killed the current series though. Superboy: Not buying. I liked the current series. Batman: Big fan of Scott Snyder. Buying this. Detective Comics: Not buying. Batwoman: LOVED the #0 issue. I'm getting this. The Dark Knight: Not buying. Batman and Robin: Not buying. Batwing: Undecided. I'm on the fence about this one. Batgirl: HATE that they're getting rid of Oracle but I'll try this one. Nightwing: I'm sure I'm going to miss Dick as Batman. Not buying. Catwoman: Not buying. Birds of Prey: No Simone, no sale. Red Hood & The Outlaws: Call me crazy but I'm intrigued. Green Lantern: Not buying. Green Lantern Corps: Not buying. GL: New Guardians: Not buying. Red Lanterns: Not buying. Justice League Dark: I'm so all over this title. Definite buy. Swamp Thing: Not buying. Animal Man: Not buying. Frankenstein: Spiritual successor to the Creature Commandos. Buy. I, Vampire: It's "Bennett" NOT "Stanton." Not interested. Resurrection Man: Not buying. Demon Knights: Love that we're seeing medieval. Definitely buying. Stormwatch: Really not that interested. Voodoo: I liked the WildCATs. I'll give this a try. Grifter: See above. Suicide Squad: Not interested. Don't like the new looks. Deathstroke: Not buying. All-Star Western: Intriguing concept. I'm buying this. OMAC: I don't trust Didio as a writer. Not buying. Blackhawks: What the *@ is this?! NOT buying. Men of War: NOT BUYING AT ALL. Sgt. Rock's "son" not necessary. Teen Titans: I'll try this because I like having my heart stomped on. Static Shock: Eh. Don't care. Hawk & Dove: Liefield ensures no money spent on it. Blue Beetle: I'll give this one a try. Legion Lost: Never a big LSH fan. Pass. Legion of Super-Heroes: See above.

I haven't bought or read a comic since I was about 15....37 now...but I am seriously considering picking up Batman..mainly for Greg Capullo and Jonathan Glapion and maybe a few issues of Justice league..just cuz I love Jim Lee ..Not a fan of his costume designs though I am 40, and I buy off and on. I've got many large cases of old comics in plastic since the mid 1970's. I've got many old DC comics, incuding the old JLI, Warlord, Green Arrow Longbow Hunter series, including many more Marvel titles. Not that anyone cares but here is the full rundown and what I feel on them: I wouldn't have asked if I didn't care! LOL! I love how you explained your rationale on what you liked and didn't. Art is good. Tan is good... Seriously though, I buy many comics for the art, not the story, and this is one MAJOR reason why I am interested in collecting this. The good news about this one as well, is the artist (Asrar) is solid. I hummed and hahed about this, but I did not read Issue #0. The cover art was so nasty bad, I was scared the interior art would be just as bad. For me that is a deal breaker. LMFAO Amen to this. I saw his name and said ABSOLUTELY NOT. I seriously dislike his art. From an artist's perspective, he has many moments of WTF? How did he get that third leg? Where did his feet go? Why is the background a million lines in random directions? I can't bring myself to buy anything he does. This one looked interesting, but I don't trust this until someone else sells me on it. P.S. It is great to see that you haven't disappeared on us ryo!

P.S. It is great to see that you haven't disappeared on us ryo! Nah. I'm still around. My time has gone to pot lately once I got transferred over to the IT department at work. I'm still hoping to finish off Weird War Tales at some point 'cause I hate leaving things undone but I'm still here - just real quiet.

Hi, folks, missed you all! Been back a little while, lurking in the Earth-A boards. May be easing back into the ol' fan fic game...
Haven't read a comic for about a year and half, so I'm a little rusty, but this New 52 initiative has sparked my interest and ire in equal measure.
I will definitely be buying: SAVAGE HAWKMAN (counting reprints, I have every Hawkman issue published, not going to stop now) AQUAMAN (always had a soft spot for the Sea King) ACTION COMICS (Morrison is more hit than miss for my money) SUPERMAN (love George Perez, even if he's just writing. Plus, it's Superman)
I may also give a shot to: JUSTICE LEAGUE (X-Men #1, anyone? Bring it, Jim Lee!) DEMON KNIGHTS (will either rule or suck hard) FRANKENSTEIN (love the Morrison re-imagining of this character) I, VAMPIRE! (a childhood favorite; this will undountedly suck, but I gotta hope)
Some others, I will trade-wait based on reception and buzz: BATGIRL (it's Gail Simone, how bad could it be?) JUSTICE LEAGUE DARK (Interesting concept!) WONDER WOMAN (DC has lost their way with Diane since Simone was kicked off) DC UNIVERSE PRESENTS (how can this go wrong?) NIGHTWING (one of my favorite characters, but few seem to get him) RED HOOD (I'll keep an open mind for Starfire's sake) MISTER TERRIFIC (whacky re-presentation of a great character; might work) SUPERGIRL (this will probably be awful, though) GREEN LANTERN (I followed it all the way through Blackest Night, but can't seem to get worked up about it anymore)
Books I will stay away from like the plague: Anything by Winick, Liefeild

Dammit! I just looked at who is drawing Batgirl. Now I have to pick it up too. That is now 2 teenage girl superhero comics... Why do they do this to me!?
I just checked Suicide Squad's artist and I am very scared about this one. The artist drawing it has a very inconsistent style that could cause me great frustration while reading it... >.<

I haven't been a regular reader of DC Comics for over five years. I have kept up with Green Lantern & The Flash though. Everything else I pick up in TPB if at all. That said, I decided to jump on to Flashpoint and the side issues. I found a cool direct ship retailer online Impulse Comics, who give a 30% discount free backs and boards and ships the issues directly to my house once a month. This works great since the closest retailer is 90 miles away in Portland.
With all that said I thought I'd jump back to the monthlies and see what happens. I did limit myself, a little. With the discount I can still try out a fair amount for around $20 a week, which isn't too bad. So for me here is my breakdown:
Justice League – This is the Justice League…period I am willing to forgive the the missing Martian Manhunter…for now. Plus Jim Lee and Geoff Johns is a sure hit. Action Comics - Because Morrison usually delivers. Plus it’s Rags! Detective Comics - Love Tony Daniel here! Green Arrow - I have every Green Arrow comic. Could be cool with the outlaw spin. Green Lantern – Still one of my favs. Wouldn’t miss it. Legion Lost – Worth a try given given the premise. Resurrection Man – Abnett & Lanning a can’t miss on one of the most underrated titles from the late 90’s. Suicide Squad – Anyone who knows me…knows I will get this book good or bad. Let’s hope for good. Batman – Haven’t read Batman in over four years. Why not here? Blue Beetle – Did not have this on the list originally, yet the more I learning about Jamie, the more I like him. Worth a shot. Green Lantern Corps – Peter Tomasi is amazing. Legion of Super-Heroes – I haven’t always been a fan but always will to given the team a try. When it's good, it's usually really good. Wonder Woman – Brian Azzarello? Are you kidding me? Love it. Aquaman – Was a fan of the Peter David run. I just want to see Aquaman cool! The Flash – Wally is my Flash. Though, I am am still a Geoff Johns believer. Green Lantern: The New Guardians – Worth a shot. Justice League Dark – Perhaps the coolest line-up ever. Silly that it has to have the Justice League name attached to it, but if it helps it see books. Plus I am a giant Peter Millgan fan. His Shade run was perhaps the most underrated Vertigo books ever. Superman – Perez writing? It worked on Wonder Woman. Plus this might be a cool Superman book to offset Morrisons “weird” Action title. Teen Titans – Only because I have to read it and judge for myself. Batman & Robin – Heard good things about Scott Snyder. Worth a shot. Batwoman – Love this character! Plus J.H. Williams is too cool! Batgirl – Gail Simone is enough for me. Birds Of Prey – Worth a shot, especially with Jesus Saiz on art. Blackhawks – Military specialists waging a high-tech war? I’m in! DC Universe Presents – Big Paul Jenkins fan. Could be good. Frankenstein, Agent of Shade – Could potentially be one of the coolest relaunch books! I, Vampire – I want this to be good. Justice League International – Love the line-up. Love Jurgens. Nightwing – Always willing to give Nightwing a shot since Dick is Nightwing, NOT BATMAN!! Stormwatch – Never had a chance to check out the original. Sounds good enough to try. Swamp Thing – It has been a long time since Swamp Thing was good. Maybe the DCU will help? Voodoo – I like Marz and I am intrigued enough to give it a go.
Not adding:
Batwing – Batman of Africa? Too many Batmen and not interested in anything to do with Batman Inc. O.M.A.C. - I am so over the whole OMAC thing. Static Shock – Never saw the character as all that appealing. Demon Knights – Etrigan…not a fan. Grifter – meh. Mister Terrific – Not sure why there isn’t a JSA? Could be worth picking up later if something else falls off. Red Lanterns - Not a fan of the character and too many GL books already. All-Star Western – Love the duo of Gray & Palmiotti. Just never picked up their Hex run. Maybe later? The Fury of Firestorm – Not ever been a real fan plus the Jason Ronnie duo didn’t work for me in Brightest Day. The Savage Hawkman – I am gun shy here. Could be worth keeping an eye on later. Superboy – Not really interested here. The character has had too many changes over the years. Supergirl – The art looks interesting. The concept…not so much. Catwoman - Like Catwoman. Like Winnick. Maybe later though. Batman: The Dark Knight – I like David Finch, but I already have too many Batman titles. Deathstroke – The character has become something I have little interest in anymore. Captain Atom – see above Red Hood and the Outlaws – Funny things is I like the characters here, just not together. Hawk & Dove – No reason to bash Liefeld here. Like the characters, just not enough to drop something else. Men of War – Just doesn’t stand outamongstt the other similar books. Animal Man – I like Buddy. I really do just couldn’t pick them all up.

Okay the Worst 40 Liefeld drawings had me laughing alout at work... Damn that guy. The first time I really saw anything Liefeld's was a collected 3-issue TPB of 2 Amazing Spider-Man issues sandwiching 1 X-Force ish... The Spider-Man parts were McFarlane, the X-Force was Liefeld. Like everyone else at the time, I was fascinated by McFarlane's Spidey (I was 11... Looking back now McFarlane is 80% style, 20% substance), but when I got 1/3rd through and Liefeld's pencils stabbed me in the eye... DAMN. Just. DAMN. I remember loads of my friends going on and on and ON about Youngblood and "Oh this is so COOL!" At first I argued. I don't like it, it's a mess, this angle or that body part... Crap, crap, CRAP. But eventually I just kept my trap shut, because who could argue? This sh!t was SELLING like MAD! I can only assume at this point that DC and Marvel are using Liefeld as a sort of novelty/freakshow element in hopes of selling books that otherwise don't sell well traditionally. A kind of "COME! SEE THE PENCILLER WITH NO DEPTH PERCEPTION! BEHOLD!! THE 15 CROOKED FINGERS! THE TRIPLE-JOINTED THIGHS!" Circus act... Pay your nickel and laugh at those poor, deformed avatars of Order and Chaos. So no, I won't be picking that one up. Heh. JH Williams' Batwoman, however? Gets my money EVERY time. That guy could draw FLIES and I'd pay for the print. Ba-dum-PSH!!

Son of a B! Just found out Marcus To is drawing Huntress mini series...
Updating my list after more research: Savage Hawkman - interesting characters - great artist Supergirl - one of my favorite artists is on this one Teen Titans - team looks interesting - solid artist Batgirl - Solid Artist Justice League Dark - Solid Artist *Huntress mini series - Love Marcus To artwork.
You know what is the most coincidental thing ever? I was at the Calgary Comic Convention in June, and I asked Marcus To to draw me a full page Huntress. At the time he said he didn't know what project he would be working on, and that his Red Robin had just got cancelled.
What are the odds that I would have an original Marcus To Huntress, before he was commissioned to draw this series??? I watched him draw the whole picture from beginning to end to see how he progressed through his drawing.

By and large, the relaunch leaves me wary and suspicious at best (and outright cold at the worst). Some of the apparent choices (leaving certain things untouched because they're the hot sellers at the moment while rebooting other things around them, or ignoring other fan-popular pieces totally in the process) just irritate me. On the other hand, I must admit there are a few titles that have actually caught my eye, and the day-and-date digital release (which is the big win of the relaunch I feel) have sold me to try out a few of the titles. Having tried out the comic reader apps on my iPad, I'm really really excited about the digital releases, and that's going to get me to try out some of these issues.
Excited to Buy Blue Beetle: I missed out on Jamie the first time, but I've loved him in the other media they've used him in, so I'm going to give this a look-see Fury of Firestorm: I've always liked the character, people are fans of Rusch, and it's Simone and van Sciver...definitely interested in this one Mister Terrific: Love the character in JSA, so I'm quite eager to see him in a solo title. Not expecting to be happy, but I'm hoping. Batwoman: Love the look of the art, love the design and characterization, very intrigued by a lot of Kate's world, definitely giving this a go. Batwing: I'm more geeked out about this title than any other. That the one-page Batman design idea from that old Batman short story is being used, and put into a setting largely overlooked in comics, yeah, I'm hoping...expecting disappointment, but WAY too geeked out not to give it a try. Frankenstein: This looks awesome! All over it.
Give it a go Action Comics: Gonna give it a try. Morrison runs a little under 50-50 for me, but when he's on, he's really on. I love some of the notions he's been spouting (folk hero of the people, angry and direct, harkening back to early Golden Age, Paul Bunyan-esque...all positives) Justice League Dark: I'm both intrigued and scared of this title. probably pick up issue one or two. Demon Knights: Might check it out...definitely has some promise. All-Star Western: Likely to buy it just to keep the cowboys a-coming Blackhawks, Men of War: Looks intriguing. And I'm thrilled to see the war comics coming back, there are great characters and concepts in there, and with all the current military actions across the globe, very relevant. I'll try the first couple of issues.
Maybe try in trade Red Lanterns: Intrigued...cosmic Punisher Corps? Hmm...by Milligan? HMMM...not sure I'll get it, but definitely keeping an eye on it. JLI: Interesting, but not enough to grab me and get me to buy it. Batgirl: I WANT to give this a try, but...I don't think I can. Simone, Babs, very cool. But Babs is 22? Everything she's been through has been in four years? Sidelining popular characters so she can go back to being Batgirl? Why is SHE Batgirl? I just don't think I can do it.
Right out Justice League: I no longer trust Johns, and I'm not a fan of Jim Lee art. Yes, I'm the guy, but while he's a good artist, he's not for me. Aquaman: Some interesting ideas bubbled up over in Brightest day for this character, but not enough to win me over Wonder Woman: I feel Brian Azzarello is NOT the guy to be writing my sort of Wonder Woman The Flash: I like the Flash family...JUST Barry doesn't really cut it for me. Add to it an iffy writer and the need to reboot his history (single again, Iris is his sometime-girlfriend, etc.), and I'm out Captain Atom: Doubt I'll check it out for a lot of reasons, the biggest of which being he's far from the premise he started from and the new take doesn't sound like it's for me. Green Arrow: Not sure how I feel about his relaunch/reboot. Don't think I'll pick it up unless it's really being lauded, then I'll check TPBs Savage Hawkman: Hawkman is NOT Wolverine with wings. Of all the costumes, this one ranks near the top for awful: excessively overdone and spiky-stupid, and his weapons the same. So many reasons to say no to this. DC Universe Presents: Can't be bothered with the anthology when I'm being particular with my finances. Superman: Not a fan of the status quo being reset for Superman; not a fan of his costume in the least, nor its origin; don't trust Perez as a writer (only really worked with Wonder Woman, and even then, that's because of the era...not sure he's kept up with comics writing today)...a big pass Supergirl: Supergirl, the angry teen girl that doesn't like humanity. Again. Second verse, same as the first, and didn't care for the first verse. Superboy: Doesn't grab my eye at all. Batman, Detective Comics, The Dark Knight: Don't like the current Bat-quo, so none of the Batman titles are on my list. Nightwing: Dislike the red on his costume, and nothing about the writer's pitch catches my attention. Sad, I love Dick, and glad to see him out front and center still, but alas, a pass. Catwoman: Just meh. Never bought Catwoman since her first series way back, not going to start now. Birds of Prey: Awful Canary costume, terrible Katana costume, strange (and potentially terrible from the solicits) story premise, odd new character, unknown writer...big pass here. Red Hood & The Outlaws: James, you're crazy. As for me, this is a big pass. I hate Jason Todd, I don't like Roy's characterization and not sure it'll change enough for me to care here, and Starfire is clearly in this title to do the whole "romance with Roy and/or Jason so the writers can keep Dick/Jason angry with each other". Nope, nope and nope Green Lantern titles: Don't buy them now, not going to start. Swamp Thing: Not interested. Animal Man: Morrison's biggest triumph for me was his run wit this character...since then, he's been mishandled. And it looks to continue here. pass I, Vampire: The story was done, and done well. Pass Resurrection Man: never cared for the character the first time around. Care less the second. Stormwatch. Grifter, Voodoo: Much like Supergirl and Resurrection Man above. Adding J'onn doesn't change my feelings about Stormwatch. Really, all the Wildstorm characters would fall into this feeling. I don't like them showing up on the DCU. There are WAY too many characters in the DCU as it is (and then you add Fawcett characters, Charlton characters, Milestone characters and more)...they just don't need to be here. However, for the Wildstorm fans, I'm hoping they succeed, because they deserve to be out there for their audiences. Suicide Squad: Nothing about this title interests me anymore. I loved the original Sixties spy group; loved Ostrander's original "villains as disposable agents" spin. But as it goes on, I just don't care. And Deadshot's outfit looks stupid Deathstroke: Speaking of stupid outfits...and the Deathstroke who's running around now does not interest me in the slightest. OMAC: DC's use of OMAC in the last few years has a) started off interesting as a one-off idea, that has led to b) awful over-use. Please stop now. Teen Titans: Looks like a disaster. Awful costumes for Cass and Kid Flash, not liking the concepts, never cared for the writer. LOVE Teen Titans, and this will be a big pass. Static Shock: Never cared for the character, not going to try it unless i hear huge raves that bring me to the TPBs for a test Hawk & Dove: No. Everyone's given the reasons already, no need to restate them. Legion Lost, LSH: I'm a huge Legion fan, which is why I'm skipping it. I don't feel it's been done properly in a long time, and I'm just not interested anymore. My time with it has passed, I think. And Legion Lost? Blah...not sure why, but it just leaves me cold.
Take care Don

Three guesses what my must-buy title is...
I'm stil mad that Jonah got his book cancelled just for a stupid stunt, but All-Star Western does sound intriguing. That and DC Universe Presents are the only sure things for me in September. There's about a half-dozen "I'll look at it but I might not buy it" titles on my list, and everything else...meh. Redressing something I didn't care about before won't make me care about it now.

I wasn't reading comics anyway - I quit after the One Year Later jump failed to impress me (Damnit comic, Tim Drake is allowed to go off the deep end and try to clone Conner, but not unless someone tells him it's a bad idea and tries to stop him!). So I feel like I don't really have cause to complain.
Except that I'm pretending no one had any ideas for what to do with Harley Quinn, and they just dropped her out of the universe. It'd be much kinder.
Plus, I love Teen Titans, but I can't get past Wonder Girl being described as a "belligerent, powerhouse thief". Really? Why? Even if she has the Ares lasso and that makes her war-like, okay, that's fine. But a thief? why is she a thief? why, comic, why?

I suppose I better post mine, since I'm certain you're all dying to know my opinion. Here's what I got: Justice League - Yes, yes, a thousand times yes. Justice League International - Perhaps. I've dug the characters in the past (JLI vol. 1 was one of my first GNs), so we'll see. Aquaman - In it for the writer. Wonder Woman - Depends on the reviews. If they make WW interesting to me, i'll follow it. The Flash - In it for the art and the character. Captain Atom - Dunno. Maybe. The Fury of Firestorm - In it for the writer. Green Arrow - I like the character and maybe with a clean slate he'll be cool again. The Savage Hawkman - Wait and see. Mister Terrific - Wait and see. DC Universe Presents - Wait and see. Batman - Probably not. Batman comics have been neat but the only Bat-comics i've followed are fringe titles (and Batman and Robin). I doubt i'll follow this one. Detective Comics - Probably not. Batwing - Again, fringe titles interest me. Why does Batwing get his own comic? I'd be eager to find out. Batman: The Dark Knight - Nope. Batman and Robin - I dug the earlier one, so yeah. Batgirl - YES. Batwoman - Not as much yes, but still some yes. Nightwing - We'll see. Catwoman - Probably not. Birds of Prey - We'll see. I dig the Birds and i'd be eager to see where they go. Red Hood and the Outlaws - Yes. This is an idea I'll follow. Action Comics - In it for the writer. Superman - I doubt it. Action'll probably be enough Supes for me. Superboy - I'd like to know what they do with it before checking it out. Supergirl - I love the character, but again, I gotta know where they're taking her. Green Lantern - I'll follow it. I'm committed to GL. Green Lantern Corps - See above. Green Lantern: New Guardians - See above above. Red Lanterns - I dunno, maybe? How much mileage can you get from these folks? Teen Titans - I like team books and I like this team, so yeah. Static Shock - Maybe. I dug the animated series most of the time so we'll see. Hawk and Dove - Probably not, but maybe. Blue Beetle - I like the artist, so maybe. Legion of Superheroes - Nope. Never was a big Legionnaire and didn't like what Paul Levitz did on the most recent series, so i'll sit this one out. Legion Lost - Also this one. Stormwatch - Maybe. I've never gotten into these folks, but maybe Cornell can sell me on them. Grifter - Probably not. Deathstroke - Maybe. Suicide Squad - I'm curious more than anything here, plus I still like team books. OMAC - Nope. Blackhawks - Nope. Men of War - Nope. Voodoo - Nah, although the main character does remind me of the babe. All-Star Western - I've heard a lot of good stuff, and thanks to the combined forces of Red Dead Redemption and the Coen's True Grit, I may be interested enough in Western stories to pick this up. Justice League Dark - Too weird to pass up. Swamp Thing - Too weird to pick up. Also I never got into the character. Animal Man - Nah. Frankenstein, Agent of S.H.A.D.E. - Too weird to pass up. I, Vampire - Maybe. Despite everything that's happened to them, I like vampires, so we'll see. Resurrection Man - He's always been a weird sort, so he might prove fun. Demon Knights - I love Jason Blood and Etrigan (as we may see soon), so I'll probably at least try this. And those are my picks. Let's hope I don't burn up my college fund following them. -UDC
