If the current Daredevil series has taught me anything, it's the value of a little swash and buckle in stories. That was the vibe I got here: Aquaman as a fun, energetic hero, who can get serious or dramatic when he needs to, and I totally dig it.
This was a great opening, setting up characters, location, current and future story lines, with some fun action to boot, particularly the Aqua v. Manta grudge match. The writing came off a bit too exposity at times, but the backstory dump did set up the interesting paradigm of an Arthur Curry who hasn't yet found his kingdom. I'm looking forward to where the story goes and what (if any) changes come about. Also, that cover; magnificent.
Keep it up!

Well this is my first foray into the world of the defender of the seven seas and I must say it was pretty darn fun. The action and humor balance was good, the ominous foreshadowing to everyone's favorite b-movie interstellar conqueror was awesome, but there was a bit of heavy info-dumping, which is something I personally need as I'm not that familiar with Aquaman. Also, I love the cover and his redesign, no more fish scale armor!

Bloody Hell. A lot of stuff packed into this, quite interested to see where it will all go! We've got implications of Starro, we've got Neptune Perkins, we've got Black Manta and mentions of the Justice League... I love my foreshadowing, but I also love it when foreshadowing doesn't overshadow actual storytelling, which is a risk that some writers run. You ran that risk, you didn't fall for it. Good times. So, Garth... what's coming next?

I wanted to avoid doing an origin issue, so some exposition was necessary. Thanks for bearing with me! Well, this will always be the Aquaman fans will recognize (at least I hope so), but I do hope to tell fun and interesting stories--- and the one I have brewing I don't believe has been told yet, so I hope you stick around! Yep! Trev knocked it out of the park with this one!

Thanks, Innsmouth's Shadow. And welcome to Aquafandom! Glad you had fun your first time out. Ha! I love where Trevor went with this redesign. It still says Aquaman, but it looks better! Thanks for reading, and for the feedback!

When Aquaman quips with the Supreme One about O.R.G.E I just knew we were in for true Aqua-fun tale. I had the privilege of seeing this previously, and knowing some of the thoughts and goals with the character and story arc you want to achieve. And this issue really sets everything up well. From the new secret identity as a Doctor working at the Neptune Institute, the childhood flashback, to the fight with Black Manta and the revelation at the very end. All of this is leading up to great things to come. This is a true David Charlton tale through and through. Well written, character driven, with a classic twist, and a dash of the modern age (minus the 90's of course ) to keep things fresh. Though it isn't always apparent where you get all of your influences from, your approach to Aquaman shows how much you admire and respect the character. Because of that, I know that as a reader I can expect to be treated to a story worth investing in. Unlike so many other writers of the character, I will not feel cheated by someone who doesn't really get the character and resorts to gimmicks or clichés. Trevor's image of the "King of the Seven Seas" is one of my favorite Earth A "redesigns" and a perfect compliment to a very enjoyable first issue. Let the quest continue sir. 7 stars all around.

I think the main thing about this story is fun. I could tell when reading it that the writer had a lot of fun with the character and has a specific love for a character that deserves a lot of love: Aquaman! I like the take of Aquaman being an already established superhero, but not being aware of his origins. He's always been a unique bird with his origins going in so many different directions, and I like that we can have a character whose confident and in control, bothered by his lack of past but pushing past it because, well, that's what men do, and at the same time can become so excited at the prospect of meeting someone like himself. Very subtle but deeply constructed character work there. Also, bulletproof Aquaman = logical and AWESOME! While the expositional plot dump felt a little awkward to me, I understand why it was there and accept it. Still eeked me a little. Also, Aquaman with a secret identity? Really? Feels a little too "Superfriends" with me... And kudos for getting Black Manta in there early. Best villain ever, and also cutting off his hand and chocking him with it? Hi-larious! ;D Overall, 4 stars in my book with a very tantalizing ending! ME WANT ATLANTIS!!!
