I love me a good detective story, and I'm glad someone finally realised that Detective Comics can be a title without Batman. I wanted to do a run years back that alternated between detectives. It's a cool concept and I think you've hit up on a vein of that here.
To be fair, I'm a little disappointed by the story. None of the characters were likeable, and I realise that they're both villains, but at the same time, we need to be invested in their actions and their story, and the two of them weren't charismatic, they didn't have anything going for them other than Riddler being Riddler and Clay being a mystery-- and not one that draws you in, at that!-- I mean, I think Clay is probably Basil Karlo, but at the same time he was so aggressive and so brusque that I don't know if I care enough to look for any other clues.
I do like the idea of a villain hunt though. I want to see Riddler and this Clay fellow tracking Scarecrow down, because I love villains interacting-- all schlocky and grandiose-- so I have faith in the next part. I just think I need more pep and zing to their interactions.
The subjective narrative from Nigma was somewhat redundant, because it felt like this: Nigma was thinking how much he didn't like Clay "I don't like you, Clay," Nigma said, to reinforce the narrative choice. That is, of course, a massive simplification, but I've read better from you Scott (Suicide Squad, coming soon!) so I know you have a good handle on villain interaction.
So really, what I'm saying is this: The story needs more spark. The characters need to bounce off each other more. Show don't tell. Don't disappoint me with Scarecrow (I love him and what Im was doing with him in the tail end of her Nightwing run) and be sure to drag me into this mystery next month. I love the nitty gritty of the DC2 villain underworld, so all this is interesting to me, but I just want you to dig in some more. There's lot of potential here, the writing is crisp, but I just want to see more from you!

Oh, and I'd be remiss not to mention that Joe Jarin cover. A very sinister, mischievous looking Riddler, and the fellow in the background piqued my interest enough to delve into the issue without much hesitation. Great stuff.

"Cress and Clay detective agency, Going to find out about your duplicity, So don't even think of trying to lie to me, Cress and Clay detective agency!"
Sorry that was in my head as I read this. Now on to my thoughts. It was a pretty good issue. It was good to see that these villains can hold their own in a story without Batman. The Scarecrow reveal is what is going to get me to come back for the next issue.
Riddler VS Scarecrow: Fight to the Death! (Hopefully)

Riddler VS Scarecrow: Fight to the Death! (Hopefully) Bit flippant with the offing of two awesome characters there, Ins! I don't know whether to be worried ;D

What I meant Charlie wasn't so much that one of them had to die as to hoping that the stakes being raised that high. And even if they did die, you have to remember that this is DC, they'll be back by the next crisis!

I finally had a chance to read and responded to the latest new issue in the queue! Overall this issue was a fun read. I was instantly drawn in by the Riddlers inner monologue, which carried the entire issue for me. Your summary of Riddler recent DC2 continuity was simple, yet brilliant. I was intrigued with how you are developing the character by showing a glimpse of his inner psyche. Again, those moments carried the issue for me.
Clay on the other hand, left me a bit cold. Not sure who he is, and like Charlie, I am not sure I care. His dialogue was off-putting and didn't seem to fit such a mature character around since 1927.
The Crime Doctor seemed pretty cool for the most part. Not sure why he wouldn't be a bit more familiar with a tox screen though (even if its use wouldn’t apply here). And why did Riddle not seem to know who Scarecrow was?
I like said, it was a fun read even with the above minor issues. I hardly cared that Batman never appeared in this issue, and hope he only appears next issue if it benefits the overall tale you are telling.
Joeys cover was spot of perfect and added to the overall 5 star issue! Can’t wait for Scarecrow and the next issue.
