Enjoyable issue. Is this two titles for Artemis now? I know she's part of the new Global Guardians line-up too. Good blend of Greco historical/mythological flavour with dashes of sci-fi and more regular super-hero work. Minor typo with "ducked the blow and lashedat the Amazon Queen’s". Possibly Barnes' introduction could have benefitted from quicker paced dialogue. They're both a little overly polite, perhaps. As a return from a hiatus, this issue works very well - introduces a set of characters with clear progress and development arcs ahead for each, has a general project and pitfalls ahead (Themyscira diplomacy intrigue), and offers a short reminder of the history behind the current situation. All without slipping too much into exposition, keeping the pace brisk and punctuated with action. Exciting closer, too..."a little kiss of Winter? Show them the fruits of Devastation?" in particular. Oh, and awhile back I cropped a title logo down from a proposed Earth A artwork thread to use in a Justice League issue I had planned, but never got around to using it. Might make for more attractive page breaks.

Seeing as no one on Global Guardians checked with either the writer or the editor of the Wonder Woman series, then we have no idea what's up with Artemis. We just know that Alex has a very keen concept for what these other amazons are up to, and some very twisty plots to lay out. He's been developing this run for quite some time, and I'm looking forward to what he's got up his sleeve next.
Thanks for your nice words and hope we'll see you back for the next issue.
Take care Don

Thank you Fantomas, I'm glad you enjoyed it. Like Don, I was not aware of this. Outside of the last issue of Justice League produced, which was full of continuity snafus (like Hippolyta being alive when she's been dead since like issue 2 of this title), Artemis has never officially introduced to the DC2 universe, with Zenobia (of Birds of Prey fame) pretty much filling that role. While the writer of that JL issue had planned on explaining away the continuity errors, he never got around to it, so I kinda view those scenes as alternate history or of thing, but also kinda see this upcoming run as a possible way to explain how she got on the island (outside of saying she lived there all along, which would've been boring IMO). This theme of old vs new, traditional vs modern, however you want to put it is going to be an ongoing point of contention in this run. Even a few slip by the best. Don's been a tremendous resource in helping me shape this run out and his efforts have been invaluable... except for the typo above While we could say that the typo shouldn't have been there in the first place... oh look, more comments... I guess I erred on the side of being over polite, since I wanted to show that Trevor knew how to speak to royalty. I'm far from an expert on the subject, but maybe having it less formal would've helped? Thanks. I felt since this title had a long hiatus, that some exposition was necessary, but i didn't want it to be a straight dump and tried to keep it in the flow of the story. The political possibilities of this title is what really drew me to it, especially how does being a head of state affect Diana and how Man's world views her? It leads into a pretty action packed next issue! More attractive than three, center-aligned asterisks? Thanks again for the feedback Fantomas. And sorry for messing up your post. I meant to his quote instead of modify.

Ah, I'm sure UltimateDC's GG isn't going to cause problems. Might be best to have a quick word with him, Artemis gets a little background note in the issue that's written, with the editor, but not put out yet. Nothing irreversibly contrary has happened yet, and I'm sure the two titles can only benefit from a shared character. This theme of old vs new, traditional vs modern, however you want to put it is going to be an ongoing point of contention in this run. The political possibilities of this title is what really drew me to it, especially how does being a head of state affect Diana and how Man's world views her? Both really interesting angles. Don's right, this is going to be good (and as twisty as promised, I hope). I guess I erred on the side of being over polite, since I wanted to show that Trevor knew how to speak to royalty. I'm far from an expert on the subject, but maybe having it less formal would've helped? That's actually a good point. I suppose I read it with Diana as Wonder Woman the superhero in mind, rather than as a complex political entity...actually, the scene works quite well like that in that case. America's perception of Diana has got to be a confused one...but I'm sure you'll be dealing with that given how the arcs seem to be setting up. Thanks again for the feedback Fantomas. And sorry for messing up your post. I meant to his quote instead of modify. No worries, it's a slip-up I often veer dangerously close to myself on occasion.

And as a side-note I've just realised it's one of your 'Tec scenes I lifted (with all due credit made clear) for Batman Inc. #0.
Hope you don't mind, I thought it was a good way of calling back to Dick's DC2 character growth.

An enjoyable debut, Alex! Really pleased to see the reins picked up on this title, and a damn shame that it wasn't continued... yet. But I hear that November is going to be a month to watch out for, so I'm psyched to see this run continue. I think that the pacing was a bit slow, that the narrative could have been clippier, but that's a side effect of my own research into writing styles. I tend to only quickly browser over long chunks of dialogue, so the opening was a very thick affair, as I didn't want to miss anything. One thing that sometimes alienates me as a reader is the amount of effort I have to put in to read something, so that's why I personally try and keep things as tight as possible... ...Apart from this feedback, of course. I really enjoy new creative teams fully utilising the continuity that's come before, but I feel like that acknowledgement doesn't have to beyond that. You don't have to pick up the threads and run with them, but a nod and a wink, that's fine. This was full of references to a strong continuity that's been very linear since #0, and I think it was all the better for it. Zeus and Hera (?) were great (if that's who they were!) and I'm interested to see what happens with Devastation (a really bloody creepy character if you think about it) and the mystery of the latest ( ) lost tribe of Amazons (I love Artemis, I have no problem with seeing where this goes) and the Cheetah people is great! The recent Wonder Woman issue with Cheetah in was a great little ditty and got me thinking about the character, so that's never a good thing! Come back, Alex! Keep up the good work! Don is a great editor to work with, especially on this title. We had a lot of fun, way back when... at least, that's how I remember it...

An enjoyable debut, Alex! Really pleased to see the reins picked up on this title, and a damn shame that it wasn't continued... yet. But I hear that November is going to be a month to watch out for, so I'm psyched to see this run continue. Thank you for reading Charlie. I had and still have many plans for this title. November will see the next issue, which has been written for sometime now. I'm looking to line up some of my ducks in a row before putting it on the calendar. I'll try and keep this in mind for future issues. Hopefully I will be able to find the sweet spot and have a good mix and pace. I've probably done more research into Wonder Woman and this story than I have in all my others. Not only researching the DC2 issues (in particular David's opening issues (which were fantastic) and your own run on the title (equally fantastic), but the Perez/Jimenez/Rucka volume of the title. It was all extremely enjoyable and gave me a greater appreciation for Diana. I intended this to be a sort of re-introduction of what came before, since so much time had passed between the previous issue and this one (and subsequently, this issue with the next one). I'm glad the references worked and hoped it wasn't to overbearing. I agree 100% with you, that you don't have to be a slave to what came before, but can just acknowledge it and move forward. I'm glad you liked this and the new Amazons. I have some real big plans for them and hopefully it comes out well. One big theme of the run is going to be the old vs new and traditional vs modern. Don help on this was invaluable and helped shape things for the better. I havent reached out to him yet, but I'm hoping he'll still be editor on the title. I'm still lining up a few more ducks in a row before setting a date for the posting of the next issue, but it will be out and will come out on a regular basis.
