Krypton, now
Two days ago the Amazons started their attack on Krypton. Yesterday, I was separated from my father. Thousands of Kryptonian soldiers died on the first day alone. How could they overpower us? No one on Krypton knows what is going on. But I think I may have found the answer, or at least part of it; dozens of soldiers have encountered a monster of great strength. It may have came from Themyscria along with the Amazons.
It began a a confrontation with Wonder Woman and her armies. But the battle separated us. She wished that no more than I; she wanted to face me. I did not see her again...but I hope to. If I survive this.
It was during this time of chaos and confusion in the battle that I heard of the strange monster. Was it male? The soldiers were not sure. But Themyscria's warriors are all women. Perhaps it was a creation of their science, with no true gender of it's own? But their science is not focused on genetic engineering or robotics as ours is. Discovering the truth of this creature may be the key to winning the battle to save our world.
But first I must deal with the more immediate problem. Mother and I are trapped, buried alive; and we are not alone...--
Kal-El, his mother, and four other survivors were buried in the rubble of a collapsed building. They had enough space to walk around in, but they were slowly running out of oxygen. They had been trapped there for some eleven hours now, ever since Kal-El was separated from his father. For the past 11 hours, Kal-El and his mother had been trying to figure out a way to escape. Normally this would be no problem; but for some reason, Kal-El's ring wasn't working.
One of the other survivors approached the Queen; their was anger and arrogance in his eyes. He was Mer-White, though most just called him White. He was head of propaganda for the war against the Amazons, but he had always believed himself to be more important than he truly was; egotistical and presumptuous, Kal-El had felt that even Zod was better.
Now Mer-White addressed the Queen. “Why haven’t you gotten us out of here, Lara!?"
"That is 'your highness,' White. You would do well to remember that.” Her eyes flashed. “Besides, you haven't come up with any ideas. Stop talking and start thinking!”
"Your the brainiac here, LARA! GET US OUT OF HERE!" He pulled his hand back in a menacing way, while the Queen glared at him. She was no weakling; if he hit her, she would hit back. But White's arrogance and frustration had blinded him to this; as had happened many times before, he had forgotten his place.
But as he swung, Kal-El grabbed his wrist. With no small amount of satisfaction, he threw White into the wall, hard. Mer-White yowled in pain; his arm broken by the impact. But Kal-El wasn't done; he lifted the pompous fool by the throat. "Don't you EVER talk to my mother that way again....or I will make you SUFFER. Do you UNDERSTAND!?” Kal-El's eyes blazed with rage.
"Kal-El!” His mother put a hand on his shoulder. “Release him at once."
Kal-El looked back at her. He didn't want to let go of the man. But he knew that stopping White was enough, and any more was worse than what White had tried to do. In frustration and disgust, he shoved White away. White hit the ground hard and slid a good five feet. Laying there, he stared at Kal-El in shock, as though truly seeing him for the first time.
He'll probably be dead soon anyway, Kal-El thought,
along with the rest of us. I can't get us out of here, my ring hasn't worked ever scince the roof collapsed on us. I can't feel it's power any more. Is it my will that's failed? Have I given in to despair?--
Jor-El's Palace, the Throne RoomJor-El was thrown to the ground. His hands were bound, and his nose was bleeding. Wonder Woman now sat on his throne, and the shadowy shape of Batman stood beside her, gleaming with tactical brilliance.
"Jor-El, why do your forces continue to fight a war they cannot win? Have you managed to find a way to contact them even in the prison?" Wonder Woman arched a brow.
"NO! I, um.... I am not in contact in any way." His voice trembled with nervous hysteria.
Eyes flashing, Wonder Woman put a sword to his throat. “If you are lying to me--”
"I- I'm telling the truth! I SWEAR!"
She put her sword away, but said, "Maybe I can get the truth out of you in different means, your highness." She took her lasso from her belt, but Batman interrupted her.
"That's not necessary, Princess. He's telling the truth; I can hear his heart beat from here.”
"I know, Batman. But I intend to find out whatever he knows about the army's location." She threw the lasso around Jor-El's waist. "Where are the soldiers hiding?"
Jor-El's eyes glazed over, and his breathing slowed. "They are hiding North of Kandor, in a base hidden under an ice mountain."
She released Jor-El from the lasso's grasp. As he fell to his knees, he grabbed his throat and gasped for breath.
"Guards, Take him to his cell; He will hang in three hours, after our attack."
As the guards took him away, Batman said, "You don't have to
kill the old fool, Wonder Woman."
"Oh, but I do. You still don't understand, do you? He ordered the attack on Themyscria!"
"But you don't know that, Diana."
"He had Zod kill my mother!"
"Or was that Zod's own choice? Maybe you can do this in a different way; trust me, I have a plan that could make use of him."
Diana looked at him.
How could Jor-El help me and my people in our quest for vengeance? "I'm listening..."

Elsewhere on Krypton...
I don't care if they find out who I am! I'm getting us out of here, no matter what. Filled with anger and determination, Kal-El stalked towards the rubble with purpose."Kal-El what are you doing?!" His mother's eyes were wide.
"Getting us out of here."
"But your secret--"
"It's either that, or we all die here. I won't let you die for me...and I suppose not even White deserves such a fate."
But before he could act, the rubble shook, as if an explosion had gone off nearby.
"What the--"
The wall disintegrated, but they were unharmed; Kal-El didn't even get the chance to try to use his ring to protect them. They shaded their eyes against Krypton's sunlight.
A shadowy figure stepped out of the light, and his voice was familiar. "Welcome back, my Queen."
"Z-Zod?"
"Yes your highness. And we have an offer for you and young Kal-El."
"We? Who's
we, Zod?"
Zod smiled, and made a sweeping gesture. “Welcome to the Resistance.”
Behind Zod, an entire army stood at attention. At his order, escorts rushed to the survivors, ready to give them medical attention....
