Realised we could probably muster up some comics talk now that there seem to be more people around the site.
So, old or new, what are we reading?
Picked up the new Batman Black & White today, which promises to be fun. Getting quite into digital comics (partially because I moved away from any local comic book shops), with Batman '66 (good, entertaining, but maybe not great yet, though the recent Joker story was very promising), the new Batman Beyond 2.0 (Kyle Higgins seems like a fan who's had a lucky break, and you can tell he's having fun with his writing...even his Nightwing title picked up after the Chicago move) and Legends of the Dark Knight (possibly my current favourite Bat-title, there have been some really interesting stories - the cryptid issue stands out in my mind, but the Mike W, Barr stuff recently was really nice late Bronze Age flavouring).
Huh. You wouldn't think I read non-Bat titles. I swear I do.

I've been reading the new 52 Batman series and i'm fortunate to have the first issue (1st printing) in mint condition, unopened. I've also been reading the Superior Spiderman (which is starting to tick me off, the writing and art is great but this is starting to get ridiculous. There are limits Dan Slott!). I've also pulled out the first two issues of the Venom series, which are two of my favorites. I'm also in the middle of reading V for Vendetta, and I'm starting to read Batman Lil' Gotham.

I completely forgot l'il Gotham...another great DC digital, and by one of the best Batman artists, Duskn Nguyen.
Serious, he and Paul Dini were a hell of a dream team on Streets of Gotham, and those Tec issues they did together. All the timeless class of the Animated Series, but with the surreal and the dark cranked up a notch.

I am in the process of catching up...alot, lol! I had been downloading titles from New 52 and storing them on my external hard drive, but my external decided to lock me out. So, the last Bat-titles I read was Court of Owls and Hush (I know they are old, but I am getting them from the library, lol). I am looking forward to reading the "Forever Evil" storyline that is currently running.

I've been reading the digital Red Sonja series by Gail Simone. It's a comic about an ass-kicking lady written by Gail Simone, so that should tell you everything you need to know about it and be incentive enough to buy it.

I'm reading Batman '66 and really enjoying it. I've picked up Hawkeye and Captain Marvel slowly (I'm still back at #4 or #5 for each), and loving Fearless Defenders. There are some DC titles from the reboot I'm reading slowly (Batwoman, though again back at #6 or so), All-Star Western (at #7 or 8 I think), and was picking up Frankenstein and Batwing (though I'm not happy to hear about the cast change coming up, so even slower to catch up to that point). Otherwise, my steady reading includes using Comixology to replace or fill in great comics of the past. Currently sweeping up Avengers in the 150's to 160's, and recently completed the two Terra Obscura volumes (such fun, fun stuff). Wishing they'd release more Infinity, Inc. past #10, having lost all my old copies. Yeah, mostly lots and lots of older titles. Hopefully they'll start releasing some old Ducks too, because I love the classic Scrooge and Donald and the nephews.
Curious about King's Watch, that could be interesting. And wishing that the Dynamite pulp stuff weren't so pricy, even on digital, because it looks like they have that look and feel nailed.
Take care Don

I'm so behind on Dynamite's pulp stuff, but I've loved everything I've read and King's Watch certainly made me want to get back into it.
What are we thinking of Villain's Month? So far there have been some good ones, and a few stand-outs (that Darkseid one, Jackanapes...Two Face maybe).
The Kubert Jackanapes issue is good reason to be looking forward to his apocalyptic future Damian series.

Sad to say, I can't seem to work up any interest for comics published today... I was never much of a Marvel guy, and I don't really recognize the DCU anymore--- they lost me after Blackest Night (though I did buy Brightest Day in collections).
That being said, I've been re-reading the issues in the run-up to Infinite Crisis, and am really enjoying them. Rucka's Superman and Wonder Woman are currently a standout for me. DC is so much better at the set-up than the pay-off! Maybe that's just a Geoff Johns thing, though.

I havent been able to get into any new comics coming out either. I kinda stopped reading DC once Morrison stopped writing (though I will pick up Multiversity whenever it's released and his Wonder Woman Earth One GN). I've fallen behind on a lot of stuff or lost interest in it. I loved Earth 2 and the Ultimate line from Marvel (which looks like it's ending.. )

Oh, I forgot to mention that I just finished reading "Arkham Asylum: Living Hell". That limited is utterly fantastic and I suggest it to anyone who has not taken the opportunity to read it yet. I am trying to get ahold of the Demon Knights series, new Stormwatch, and catch up on Justice League Dark. As I said in my previous post, I am way behind, lol!

Sat by the fire with an excellent hardback collection of Batman's newspaper comic strip.
Bill Finger stuff, with some really enjoyable old fashioned crime busting. Why, just this instant Batman and Robin just saved a theatre company from a mad terrorist (whose true identity shocked even me!).
Been going back over the golden age Batman books quite a bit recently, but have to say the newspaper stuff is something I'd really recommend.

I'm also not a fan of the new stuff. I read a few Marvel here and there and the Batman Beyond Universe, but my new favorite hobby... hitting the bargain bin for old DCU and Marvel issues!
Last week I found some old Teen Titans and Excalibur. Who knows what I'll dig up this week!

Not buying from either DC or Marvel at the moment. I am considering picking up Snyder's Batman stuff in trade but that's a while down the road. I don't like DC at all anymore and Marvel is okay but nothing interest me. So I'm doing Vertigo, Dynamite titles, the other guys. My favorite series that I just finished was The Boys.

I finally got my external HD unlocked and am now current with New 52. Lots of reading ahead of me with that, Blackest Night, Brightest Day, Moore's Promethea, and Morrison's The Invisibles.

I just got done reading volume 2 of Stumptown by Greg Rucka and Matthew Southworth. I don't know if I like it more than volume 1 or not, but it's still a really great mystery/crime series: funny, intriguing, and as someone who lives in Portland, I appreciate the scenery. Go check it out if you have a chance.
Next up: Axe Cop, volume 3. We're in for a good time.

Oh, and let's not forget the only Garth Ennis series I'm collecting. I'm not a fan of his at all, so I buy only the occasional issue of something of his that I hear is really worth it. But I am buying Red Team, originally in support of DC2 alum Craig Cermak (who's doing the art). And I'm surprised, I really like it. The story is tight, the characters are intriguing, and Craig is doing an amazing job of keeping a mostly talking-heads title really dynamic. So yeah, Red Team, issue five is out today.
Take care Don

Cool to hear that a DC2 contributer made it to the big leagues. Very cool indeed.
All Crime Comics was my surprise find from this Wednesday. Really enjoyable stuff, with old time artwork (cover by Bruce Timm was the giveaway) and a nice, simple story of criminals and their dames.

Currently I have to say I'm barely reading anything by dc right now. The new 52 just isn't for me. Most of the characters I grew up with and love either no longer exist or are basically unrecognizable. I was enjoying earth 2 despite it not being THE earth 2, but with the new writer is kinda sounding like a bat book.
And this is why I love dc2. We can still tell tales of wally and donna; of jade and todd, of cass and steph.
I am finding myself becoming more of a marvel zombie and am really enjoying several of their titles right now-some of which have taken me completely by surprise -particularly avengers arena. Also massively enjoying young avengers, its just gorgeous. Also fearless defenders and I really enjoyed the first issue of mighty avengers.

I like the New 52 and it was actually my impetus for getting back into reading comics on a regular basis again. When I collected years ago, I was exclusively Marvel, Image, and 2000 A.D. Magazine. I had started reading graphic novels from DC and wanted to get back into collecting, but felt overwhelmed, but the New 52 gave me the chance to start fresh. I actually like the way things are being handled with the exception of some of the missing characters like Cass and Steph.
DC2 is awesome because it gives me the chance to write comics which has been a lifelong dream of mine and in one of the richest universes to boot!

Huh. The other fun new find of the week: Night of the 80s Undead. I've missed the first issue, but it's...frenetic, cocaine-fuelled, zombified sex romping and pretty well drawn. Somehow not just another zombie book.
Old find is Geoff Johns' Teen Titans. Which is...alright. Lot of the obligatory Johns splash pages with a cool one-liner. Which is kinda fun. My reading of teenaged DC characters is weak, so I thought I'd give them a whirl.

Has a weirdly un-DC feel...more like DC as seen through Asterix and Obelisk style humour. Irreverent, energetic, great recommendation, thanks.

I've taken the plunge and bought the first two volumes of Demon Knights. And volume 1 of Swamp Thing. YES! Love me some Demon Knight! And Snyder's Swamp Thing was pretty right-on too. I doubt this needs to be said, but I will anyway: If you're a comic book fan who buys books on the regular and Saga is not on your pull list, FIX THAT. It is outstanding and lovely and funny and true and just plain fantastic. If anything, just buy the first trade, or hell, the first issue, and see what you think. -UDC
