JUSTICE SOCIETY OF AMERICA #7-12 & ANNUAL #1: 'CRISIS ON TWO EARTHS!'
Written by David Charlton, covers by Alex Vasquez, additional art by Brandon Herren, Jamie Rimmer Alex Vasquez
INTRODUCTION:
I wanted to write an old-fashioned JLA/JSA crossover, like the ones I used to read when I was a kid. It's a tale as old as the Multiverse--- literally! From the moment Jay Garrick met Barry Allen, the JSA meeting the JLA was inevitable. One team would visit the other in an annual event that always involved an adventure that required that they split up and tackle a menace that was usually too big for one team alone. The stakes were high, the adventure sprawling, and the cast was huge. Those were the stories that introduced me to the Justice Society of America, and so are chiefly responsible for my own Justice Society of America title here at the DC2, and in a roundabout way, responsible for the DC2 itself. When the admin of a short-lived DC fan fiction site told me I'd have to wait years to write a JSA book, I went off and started the DC2 as a platform for my Golden Age stories, taking Charlie, Scott, Brandon and Ramon with me; the irony is, I was so busy setting up the site, and working on other titles that it actually was years before I got Justice Society of America off the ground.
Crisis followed crisis, and I finally launched the title, and it wasn't long before I came to that story I really wanted to tell. This story had a twist implicit in the set-up: this time, the JLA were the retired, august heroes of Earth-Two, and the JSA was the recently (re-)formed team of Earth-One. But anyone who read and loved those old crossovers will recognize the same old beats: a menace too big for just one team, high stakes, sprawling adventure and a huge cast.
In this, I was ably assisted by Alex Vasquez on covers, who took every idea I had and made it better. Brandon Herren contributed some interior art that showcases the heroes of the DC2 Earth-Two, and inspired me to tell a better story with his effort. And Jamie Rimmer deserves a special mention as a constant sounding board and eager contributor; this story kicks off in Justice Society of America #7, but check out the end of issue #6 for a bonus treat from Mr. Rimmer (it's one of my favorite pieces of art on the site).
I hope everyone enjoys this arc as much as I enjoyed writing it.
David.
