A very cerebral issue. I think I missed something. It was nice to have the "editors notes" it made the story feel embedded in the whole of the universe. I like the idea of J'onn being on a galactic quest. Opportunity there for a miniseries featuring the Martian Manhunter.

There's a lot going on and a lot planned and I'm pleased that I'm getting to kick things into overdrive. I've got a cool annual planned with Don that I'm excited for, that we might be able to deliver in time for my birthday in May (because why not?) that's going to make things wild (maybe!) and I'm written out until #8, though I have half of #9 and 2/3rds of #10 written, the latter of which is the return to a world that we've not properly visited in a long time, though we have seen glimpses of in recent months... hmm...

Wow, what a great issue and a perfect mission that only the League could handle. I enjoyed the 'A' plot wiht Martian Manhunter. Loved his patient analysis of the situation. They found a good solution.
There were also tons of plot hooks for Kobra and the Daemonites. Almost too much at times? That said, your summaries keep me up to speed! I'm eager for Kobra to get their comeuppance.

Wow, what a great issue and a perfect mission that only the League could handle. I enjoyed the 'A' plot wiht Martian Manhunter. Loved his patient analysis of the situation. They found a good solution. As I pushed forward with the series I knew I wanted to do some team-up issues, with odd couples of characters going on adventures. J'onn and John made perfect sense, and I even nearly sent Barry along with them, but knew quickly that his power set precluded the claustrophobic space adventure I wanted to send the team on. I also know I wanted to get the Martian Manhunter out of the book for a couple of reasons. Firstly, he's way too powerful, and I wanted to write some stories where an easy answer would have been to have a psychic on the team. I overthink everything, which is a right pain when it comes to writing what Don always called 'Pretendy Fun Time' stories. I'm working toward something I'm tentatively titling Justice League RIP, and I'm trying to make sure there are no weak links in the story. You know when the Justice League go on an adventurer and their roster is quite small, and you wonder why Superman doesn't turn up to lend a hand? Or if they're in space why the Green Lantern Corps don't show up to deal with the problem? Those are the issues I have writing. I need to make sure there are no gaps in the logic. If the world is ending in Justice League, why don't the Green Lantern Corps show up? If the world is ending in Green Lantern Corps, where are the Justice League? Having a psychic makes a lot of stories hard to write! Secondly, I had a plan for a big homage to one of Roy and my favourite JLA arcs, and started setting it up here. J'onn leaves Earth in #41 (this issue), a character from his past arrives on Earth in #52, then said character makes his play in #59. I play the long game with a lot of story threads, and this is an example of that. You see a lot of stuff come to fruition tens of issues after I first laid the first seed. I think it's a hit-and-miss approach, speaking of... There were also tons of plot hooks for Kobra and the Daemonites. Almost too much at times? That said, your summaries keep me up to speed! I'm eager for Kobra to get their comeuppance. I realised that where I was going with Kobra was about to reach a conclusion very soon, so that's why you see #44, the seventh issue into the relaunch, where I wrap up loads of threads with the concept. It doesn't wrap everything up, as the characters continue to appear sporadically, be it in the Batwoman and the Outsiders back-ups where I shift the focus from the League to the Outsiders, or asides here and there (the aforementioned #52 for example). The religion is still in the background of the world, and they'll return when I'm ready to focus on them, but for the time being, they're on the back burner. The Daemonites! You're about to hit an arc that really digs into the past of the Kherans and Daemonites, and then their story goes on the back burner for a while as well. I won't spoil anything because you're still reading, but a very important character joins the Justice League with ties to both races, and his story is about to reach a crescendo very soon in the present day run. I think I did seed too much too soon with the Daemonites, which has twisted me up a bit when I continue to write the title. You'll see very soon, and I'll go into more detail when you reach the relevant arc, but I've not forgotten them, and their eventual return is a major event for the future. Thanks again for reading, Oblique!! You're giving me a reason to respond to feedback instead of writing the three titles that are taking up space in my brain at the minute!

Frankly, I always wonder the same things: where is the League, where is Superman, where is the Corps... Perhaps it's overly technical, but I think fiction like this (rather than the more limited word count of a comic) is the place where those questions can have, and deserve, an answer!

Frankly, I always wonder the same things: where is the League, where is Superman, where is the Corps... Perhaps it's overly technical, but I think fiction like this (rather than the more limited word count of a comic) is the place where those questions can have, and deserve, an answer! I've been trying to allude toward these kinds of things recently. In Justice League #59-63, Superman turns up and it's alluded to why he doesn't stick around (though at that point in the story it's not overt). Justice League #64-66 does loop in the reservists, but they're on the periphery helping out while the main team solve the cause of the crisis. In Green Lantern Corps #70-72, there's a massive sphere around Coast City that locks everyone but the main characters out of the story. I think if you start explaining one thing, you have to explain the next, and the next, and the next, until your story's word count is taken up with explanation rather than narrative. If Superman doesn't appear, what about Supergirl? Can't get in touch with Supergirl but Batman's the character in trouble? Why doesn't Nightwing appear? Or Robin? If Wonder Woman gets in trouble, why doesn't the entire island of Themyscira declare war on Patriarch's World? Further down the rabbit hole we go. Trying to come up with in-story ideas to keep the core characters in the spotlight and other heavy hitters out of it is an uphill battle. We'll see what comes of the struggle next.
