Hello there. I wrote 2 fan comics for my favorite Batman villains, The Joker and The Riddler. An artist is working on the Joker story and almost done with it (2 pages away from being done).
I talked to another artist for the Riddler project. He asked me about the legal aspects of doing the comic, basically, could we get sued? I've researched a bit and it seemed like free comics for personal use is cool... and these comics are so widespread on the internet, especially fan fiction. These two comics are based on my favorite movie and TV scenes of all time (1989 Batman for Joker, and a 1960s Batman episode for The Riddler).
Does anyone know the history of DC Comics and fan comics specifically? Does DC comics frown upon fan comics for personal use or free entertainment purposes, with no intent to make money? Thanks for your time.

Thanks for your time. I don't know the history, but DC don't frown upon fan comics (or fanfiction or fan movies), otherwise there wouldn't be any around (on the other hand there are various authors that forbid fan works based on their creations). I remember Batman The Deal from last year, www.bleedingcool.com/2013/11/10/batman-the-deal-a-dark-and-twisted-fan-fiction/ , which is still up and one of the creators ended up working at Boom Studios as a result of it.

Well that was the most dark and depressing Batman story EVER. I still enjoyed it.
