Letters to Justice League Vol. 2 #10

One of the thing I've had comments on in the past is my approach to the openings of my issues. I approach each issue like an episode of television (for the most part), and that means I'm utilising cold opens every time. This is the scene that needs to draw the reader in, make them engage, and them BAM, smash to opening credits (and cover). I remember back in the day, probably during the first year, that David mentioned it-- I think he saw it more like delaying the cover art, which was never my intent-- and it's been on my mind ever since... as are most things.

On this topic, TV Tropes tells us: "In a Monster of the Week show such as The X-Files, the teaser usually contains the first Red Shirt of the episode. In a Crime and Punishment Series, it usually contains the first murder or the body of a victim being discovered. It has become something of a fashion, particularly on crime shows, to end the cold open with a Quip to Black." 

Justice League #10 utilises the quip to black. The thing with having a cast so full of characters (not in the literal sense, but the fact you've got Blue Beetle hanging around means you're allowed a level of... levity... that other casts might lack). In Green Lantern Corps the exact same premise exists. You're going to see the above quote followed through on in the next issue of Green Lantern Corps, because it made perfect sense for the issue, and it really sets the tone for what you're about to read.

That's what it's all about, really. Getting you prepared, excited and wondering what's coming next. I love writing these stories, especially in the universe we've established, and I think finding new hooks is really important for the continuing enjoyment of not only the few readers we have on the site, but also those writing it. God, if it was the same setup every month we'd have stopped doing this years ago. But with our ten year anniversary here... well, we stuck it out-- for the most part-- didn't we?
