Well, here we are! Brightest Day is the culmination of everything I’m putting into Green Lantern Corps right now, and instead of telling a cosmic-rocking epic for the ten-year anniversary, I thought I’d do something a little bit different. I’m really happy with this story, and I hope you like it too!
One of my favourite things about Ten Years Later has been the opportunity to work with artists that I haven’t collaborated with in years. Be it DC2 stalwarts like Roy Flinchum and Jamie Rimmer, who I continue to work with on ongoing titles across the site, or some personal favourites of mine like Steve Howard and Nathan Kilburn, it’s been a great artistic experience for me, and I hope for them too. Not only that, but I’ve also had a chance to work with the returning ArtTeach, who was one of the unsung heroes of the first year or two of the site. Great times.
One artist who I always wanted to work with again was Jessica Byrnes Cheong, who I had a short stint working with back during my first run on the Green Lantern title. I’m not even sure how we started working together, but I loved her art and when Ten Years Later rocked up I reached out to her. When I was writing the book with her on covers, the stories were me trying to move away from the established paradigm of Green Lantern storytelling, to take established concepts like the Predator and Hank Henshaw and run in completely different directions with them, all while honour what came before with the likes of Guy Gardner and the Legion Virus. I thought it’d be cool to share the four—and I can’t believe it was that few—covers she did for the ongoing title here, because why not?
Undressed cover to Green Lantern Corps: Brightest Days (if you click it it should get massive and you can see all the cool detail, I hope)
