I've been thinking,.... doesn anyone have any idea how much it will cost (plane ticket, con ticket and all) to get to NYCC from alabama?...... and also, how do I reserve a spot and WHEN do I need to reserve it?...... kind of need to know all of this now, before it gets too late....... anybody got any advice?!

October is coming quickly, folks, and it is time to get serious about the GREAT DC2 CONVOCATION! I am very excited about this, and very much look forward to seeing all of you there (that includes you, Ramon ) in New York. The con is the 8th through the 11th, only eight months away, so everyone might want to start making arrangements as soon as possible. We have a couple bits of business to work out: 1) Where are we going to assemble, and 2) Will we take this opportunity to plan something awesome. ;D Please reply here with your intention to attend (so we can best work out #1) and any ideas you have on what we should do (creatively or otherwise ).

I'm going, by gum!
And as for what we should plan, here are a few ideas:
* Plan a huge DC2 event--- possibly an endstory to our (Earth-One) continuity (emphatically not an end to our DC2 community) * A DC fiction anthology we can shop out to Warner for publication * An original superhero fic anthology we could prepare for any publisher * We could start our own original comic company (in association with the work Brandon and Chris are doing?) * We could just party like it's 1999 (in which case, I'm bringing my denim jacket)
Can't wait to hear from tons of people!

In the interest of making this an ongoing discussion in one place (and because I don't think she would mind) I am posting here Mockingbird's recent PM to me:
Very glad to hear it, Sam!
Not sure about the group discount idea, but that is a terrific idea. I'll look into it!

I definately want to attend. Just have to make sure the finances allow it. Where do you people usually stay over night when you go to the NYCC? Is there a good cheap hotel somewhere? Or do you all make party the whole night? Maybe if we order more rooms in a hotel we can have a discount there, too?

Alas, it's a no-go for Jamie Rimmer and Steven Howard, both stranded on the "other" side of the pond--- but I am super-psyched you're coming Riz! Once we get a headcount, we'll best be able to figure out a group discount at a nearby hotel.
Jamie and Steven, we will drink a toast in your honor!

Seeing as I live only a state away and could practically WALK to NYCC, you couldn't keep me away with a court order. (Well, maybe a court order, but I'd still try to get around it ). So I'll be seeing you all there. Take care Don

Sorry, sir. No can do. I'm afraid my finances this year is less than sterling. Now... if you folks decide next time to come down way of Atlanta for DragonCon - I can make it easier. Trips up north get expensive. Still, I'll be excited to see what a meeting of the minds come up with

Alright, I found a good flight connection from Stuttgart (Germany) over London (UK) to New York JFK airport on Oct.7th. I'd arrive at 7:50 pm. Will anybody be there the day before the convention starts? Or will you all just arrive in time and leave directly on Oct 11th when the convention is over? Because my flight back would be on Oct 12th 10:40 pm... So we could spend one more day in NY together... Just a thought. Otherwise I'd fly back on Monday 11th around 9:30pm

That's too bad, James, I was really looking forward to shaking your hand and thanking you in person for that herculean labor of the character index. Sadly, Susan is a no-go, as well--- but her husband had the brilliant idea of a webcam cameo! I will be bringing my laptop for just such an eventuality (and others are encouraged to do the same if they can) and those that can't make it in person might be able to put in a virtual appearance! Pass along our thanks to Jamin for the idea, Susie! Alright, I found a good flight connection from Stuttgart (Germany) over London (UK) to New York JFK airport on Oct.7th. I'd arrive at 7:50 pm. I am flying in on Friday the 8th into Newark (New Jersey), staying with family in New Haven (Connecticut) that night, then will be in New York (via train) the morning of the 9th until the evening of the 10th for the Convocation (and the convention, I suppose ), returning to CT the evening of the 10th--- or possibly the morning of the 11th, depending on how things pan out. At least that's the plan so far!

oh okay, so you won't be there all 4 days? hmmm... well it is such a long flight for me, that staying only 2 or 3 days isn't an option for me. I was thinking about staying even a week longer, but I have no idea where to go to lol.

You should have no problem finding things to do and see in NYC, though (it is, after all, one of the greatest cities in the world), but even if you don't linger in NYC afterward, you're only a few hours from places like Boston, Philadelphia and Washington, D.C, as well!

I want to, Lord knows. The commute itself is not a problem. It is also a fact that I am making two other trips before then--LA end of this month and London in late April--but both of those are largely possible due to roomie's money.
By June, things may be different. Different to the point where I may be looking or a 9 to 5 job again.
So I'm gonna say: I hope so, and we'll see how things go.

I certainly hope to make it. I have a place to stay about forty fice minutes from the city.(Likely the same person Brandon would be staying with) It's all going to depend on what the rest of the year looks like for me. As long as things don't go horrible for the next 7-8 months I am counting myself as a yes. It will be worth it all for the chance to kick Charlie in the shins. It's been on my mind for years now and I can't wait.

Indeed, Boris, and I'm only forty minutes north of Boston, so I'm sure a night or two could be arranged, or at least a day of visiting and touristing.
Take care Don

So, I just dropped a large sum of money for plane fare.
Even if it's not happening, I'm still going to be at NYCC this year, so who am I gonna be seeing?

I, too, have bought tickets and plan to go, but it looks like my work schedule may give me a problem. I'm committed to opening three new branches in the next six months and the first one is opening the second week of October... so if we stay on schedule, I may not be able to go after all .

Plans have changed for me, a very good dear friend of mine is getting married that Sunday. Being Sunday though, and having Sam's dorm room to crash in, I do intend to be there for Friday of Comic-con, and Sam will be there on Friday and Sunday.
Take care Don
