Okay saw Star Trek, I love the film but if you're worried about continuity.. then you will hate this movie... but the movie is on par for being the best movie so far... it's a good story. Sci Fi aside..which for me is hard to get into like I used to be. But, the actors do a great job and I applaud JJ Abrams for having the balls to do something original with Star Trek. **** out of ***** for me. Great movie.
Oh and if you do go see it.. go see it with an open mind if you're a fan of the Original Series. The actors do a really good job portraying classic Americana characters. Even if you hate Sci Fi.. there's something for everyone in it.

I loved this movie! And like Jay said, continuity fans may not like it but it's pretty awesome for anyone who isn't too picky about them being precise. I'm a big TNG fan but man this movie made me love the old crew too.

Loved it. Hell, I think J.J. Abrams should tackle Star Wars next, and wipe the abomination of the prequels from our minds...!

I'd be all for Abrams taking on a Star Wars movie.
I enjoyed the movie thoroughly. I could nitpick some points but what would be the point. It was a load of fun and I couldn't be happier to see new life breathed into the world of Star Trek. I'd love to see this spawn a new show so I wouldn't have to wait several years at a time to see new adventures of this crew but I'm not holding my breath.

Abrams should tackle Star Wars next, and wipe the abomination of the prequels from our minds...! say what you will about the prequels, Dave, but Yoda fighting palpetine will forever stand out as the greatest star wars moment of all time for me..... granted episode two was a huge trainwreck, and the other two had problems, but, they weren't unwatchable, let's face it though, no star wars movie can ever live up to empire strikes back, and for the record, I'd take all the of the prequels over the stupid clone wars movie and series any day.......

HUH?!? Cam, you're a good guy, and we debate as friends in the spirit of friendship, with no hard feelings, I swear--- but for me, the two most ridiculous moments in Star Wars were when Yoda fought Dooku and when he fought Palpatine. I get it that Yoda is a supreme Jedi Master, but talk about an epic visual fail...! OTOH, in defense of the prequels, I also think the best moment in all six movies was the duel between Darth Maul, Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan.

I think it was a pretty impressive visual myself, but that's my opinion. I will agree that the Darth Maul fight was a pretty rad scene... and, next to Yoda, Qui-Gon is my favorite Jedi anyway.... he was one of the few jedi who would break the rules if it meant getting things done.... I respect that..... but, for the record, while we're on the subject, who do you think is the dumbest jedi in existence?.... I'll reserve my answer for now.......just curious as to what the answer is...

I liked Star Trek. Big special effects fights, funky characters, the lines from the old show, all the good stuff. Good times.

Haven't seen the new movie yet, but can't wait. I'm hearing great things about it.
I have to agree that the prequals to Star Wars were some of the worse movies I've ever seen. Though I didn't mind the Yoda stuff that much, Anakin and that girl (and the writing) made every one of the movies a train wreck.
Just my two cents, though.

I absolutely hated the last 3 Star Wars movies made. Ruined the whole series for me. Shattered my fond memories of my childhood seeing the original 3 in the theatres in the 70's.
Honestly, I also hated all of the Star Trek series after the original. I disliked Deep Space 9, TNG, Voyager, etc... I had a bad taste in my mouth when they killed Kirk off in the TNG movie.
That being said, this new Star Trek movie, I absolutely loved! They did an amazing job. I personally think they HAD to kill continuity. There was way too much history, and references to live up to if they are to do more, limiting them heavily. The hard core trekkie would eat them alive. Long live James T. Kirk!
They did an amazing casting job. Two thumbs up.

Are you saying you don't want Vader either or just the crybaby version of anakin that was in attack of the clones..... Anways, the choice for me is easy.... and I'll probably get flamed for this buuuuut.....mace windu...... God I hated him and was never more happy to see a jedi die..... Part of that probably stems from my hatred of sam jackson though.... I think his a vastly overrated actor...... the way I see it, he can only play one part well.... the stereotypical @$$hole.... in almost every movie he's in, he plays the same kind of guy...... ok, I'll stop now before my sam jackson rave gets out of control lol so, ok, go ahead, bring on the "I can't believe you don't like sam jackson" comments... I've heard them all before, I can take it! lol -Cam-

Mace Windu was bad ass. Why didn't you like him? Because he was played by Samuel L. Jackson? I thought he subverted the roles he's best known for into something else, a more refined character than he normally plays, in the way that he's got the Zen of a Jedi Master-- and yet he's still a bad ass. Plus, purple lightsaber.

Contrary to popular belief, Samuel L. Jackson does indeed own a purple lightsabre.
It's the one that says "Bad Motherfucker" on it.
