I only recently starting watching wrestling (which some consider stupid and childish, but hey, people say that about comics too) again after a two year hiatus for me (the only time in my life that I didn't. I've watched it since I can remember), and I've always loved ECW, even after it the company folded. I was happy to find out when I started watching again that the commentator for ECW, Joey Styles, was commentating on RAW, because he has a voice and just a certain distinct quality that no one else has. And tonight, on RAW, he quit after complaining about all the "downsides" that came with his job of commentating not wrestling, but "sports entertainment." I was kind of shocked, but at the same time, kind of happy. He wasn't really the same in WWE, and like he said on RAW, he commentated more on storylines than on the actually matches.
There is good news with this though. Wrestling is known to be fixed, and I've heard rumors that McMahon, who bought ECW in 2001, is going to give ECW it's own "brand", meaning ECW would still be financially backed by Vince, but that the running of the company would be in the hands of Paul Heyman (the former owner)and Tommy Dreamer. Hopefully that happens and Styles gets his old job as ECW commentator back, which would just make what happened to night an act, which in wrestling is most likely.
Anyway, I don't know who watches wrestling anymore, but feel free to post any thoughts on this or any wrestling related subjects (even a comment about Vh1's Hogan Knows Best is ok.)
I hereby make this the unofficial wrestling thread of the DC2! (Hopefully someone from admin. reads this and makes it the official wrestling thread of the DC2!)

I had NO idea Styles quit RAW, but the way it was going it was a damn good thing. Styles does great play by play but really in today's WWE, there is very little room for that. THe question is who exactly will replace him? Will they bring back J.R.? That was also the rumor since the current broadcast team is umm... a lliiiittle less than desireable. we got King uncharacteristically going face, Coach doing a half assed King circa 1996 impression, and Styles managing to get in like five words. Still beats TNA's guys though.
I like this thread, i really do. good idea, now I can have something to talk about while the others are doing there whole "Dr. Who" thing but so far, all I know of wrestling fans that we have are you, doctor dread, and I so... let's see how this goes.

upon further review, styles shoot was planned and he is heading over to philly to do what was expected: ecw commentating. i really can't wait for that, ESPECIALLY if they are going to televise some good ol' ECW goodness and not wwe watered down stuff. lets just see how that goes
also, they are bringing back J.R. pretty much full time.

Did you see Backlash on Sunday, and if so, was it any good? I wanted to see it, but I just ended up not getting it. I heard the Triple Threat match with Cena, Egde, and Triple H was well done, and so was the RVD/Shelton Benjamen match for the IC Title and the Money in the Bank.

By the way, thanks for making this the OFFICIAL wrestling thread of the DC2. I didn't think anyone would actually do that.

i don't catch pay per views much but from what i here it is the same level as most WWE stuff: mediocre at best. I DO know there were a significant amount of injuries though, in particular trish and mickie james. now with trish out because she suffered a major injury and mickie hurt, it makes me scratch my head as to what is going to happen there. veronica is the only other real competition and she is a heel like james. maybe they will just hold it in limbo or somthing.

Mickie was wrestling on RAW last night, so I guess her injuries aren't too serious. They showed the clip of Trish dislocating her arm on Raw, and it looked like it hurt a lot.

Although RAW is still in progress as I type this , I thought I'd comment on the Fatal Four Way match for the Intercontinental Title. It was between RVD (the champion), Shelton Benjamen, Charlie Haas, and Chris Masters. I'd say it was a real solid match with some good spots. Shelton hit Masters and Haas with some pretty powerful kicks that looked good, and the ending was great. Masters had Haas in the Masterlock in the middle of the ring, and RVD jumped off the top rope over both men and got Chris Masters in a sunset flip in one full move into a pin. He won the match and retained the IC title.

I was actually kind of excited for another match that just ended: A hardcore rematch of Mick Foley vs. Edge. It started off good. Foley was allowed to choose whatever style of match he wanted, and he chose a hardcore 3-Way Dance between himself, Edge and ECW veteran Tommy Dreamer. I was happy to see Dreamer in a ring again, but was disappointed when Foley and Edge ganged up on Dreamer and formed a team. They hit Dreamer in the face and in the crouch with a barb-wired bat, and the match ended when Foley gave Tommy the Mandible claw and Edge hit him with the spear and pinned Tommy. I thought the match could have been great and that it was a missed opportunity by WWE.

I just wish WWE would have more actually matches on RAW rather than just set up matches for PPV's. I know that's not going to happen, but I can dream.

in the upcoming ecw pay per view (wwe cashing in on some sweet nostalgia) it is most likely going to be rvd losing his money in the bank... money and cena turning heel. I think what might happen is either a segment during the show (a la raw diva search) or another internet show (a la heat or velocity, one of the two) vince has said he doesnt feel like going through the motions of taping another show though. also, tna has released their golden boy jeff hardy, what do you think will happen there?

also, tna has released their golden boy jeff hardy, what do you think will happen there? I'm not sure. I'd like to think he would return to WWE, but he left on bad terms. If I remember correctly, the reason he was released was because he hadn't shown up for a number of house shows. I would still like to see the Hardy Boys wrestle as a tag team again though, so maybe WWE and Jeff can put aside past problems. Again, it's not likely, but I can still have hope. ;D

didnt show for those house shows due to a drug addiction
if the hardys returned, the tag team division would definitely benefit, but i would be interested in seeing him do ECW stuff just to mix that up a little, god knows he could fit in there.

Oh yeah, drug addiction. How did forget about that?
Anyway, you're right, he would fit nicely into the ECW style.

That's great news! It seems like an odd choice for a network though, considering ECW doesn't fit into the Sc-Fi genre. Oh well, at least its coming back. I can't wait!

I had to work the other night, and I missed that ECW show on the USA network. What happened on it?

I heard him interview on The Opie and Ant5hony show and I could've swore part of the reason he left was somehow related to Edge and Lita bumpin dirties while he was out with an injury for awhile.

Well, ECW is officially back on the air. What did you guys think about it?
I really enjoyed One Night Stand on Sunday. The show on Sci-Fi was good, but I think they tried to cram too much into one hour, especially with all the constant recap's and clips. Anyways, I'm glad ECW is back and I hope it stays around for a long time.

There's no carrier for ECW where I am. However, I did catch the PPV. It was a lot of fun. I loved how the audience goaded Cena to act heelish. Throwing back the merchandise was priceless! ;D

yes, throwing back his shirt after he tossed it out into the crowd ruled hard!
i should note that the rumor was that sci fi had asked them to toss in some supernatural elements and who else should debut but THE ZOMBIE? it was a pretty class move to have a zombie like that, that kind of mocked the undertaker and kane gimmicks and have him just get demolished. total squash match but i still loved it.

See, I used to love WWF/E... but then the storylines got too convoluted and I just couldn't follow it anymore... It was more of my brothers thing anyway, as he demonstrated... With doing the WALLS OF JERICHO on me. Weekly. Painfully.
