Hello guys & gals! Convention Season is almost upon us (or maybe it's already going strong wherever you are!) and I was wondering what your plans are? We've got various Wizard World L.A. (mid-March at the LA Convention Center) & San Diego's Comic-Con International (in July) here in California. Are any of you making the trek to any of the shows out here? Do you have any in your neck of the woods that you want to 'pimp'? I'll be attending the San Diego Convention with my lovely wife & my best friend for only 2 days this year and only 1 of the Wizard World dates because I'm pretty sure my wife would kill me if I made her go to more than 1 convention for multiple days. Let me know, cuz I'm nosey!

I live in Pennsylvania, and I really want to go to that New York convention next week. I just don't see it happening with all the work I have to do for classes. I'd love to go to a convention in San Diego, seeing how it's the biggest, but again, I just don't have the time or money. I'll probably get a chance to go to a smaller convention at a Firehouse in a town near Lancaster (not where I'm from, but just the closet town I can remember the name of) during the summer. It's not much, but it's something.

C'mon Ramon! San Diego & LA are in your state! You can do it!
I've gone to San Diego for the last 8 years it is amazing! Although I'm told "it's just not the same as it used to be..." Don't quite know what that means, but I love it!

I could maybe go to the Chicago Con this year depending on the full line-up. It's the one I've attended most. I've also been wanting to attend the Dragon Con in Atlanta so who knows. Maybe this year is the year!

There were some small conventions, in my city, when I was a kid. Since moving back, I've never seen nor heard of a comic book convention here. Ah well, I guess it's back to the tattoo convention for me this year.

I went to a barber shop quartet convention once. By mistake. They were at the same hotel I was staying in. Boy, those guys could harmonize!
My one and only convention experience of any kind. You can see why I might be nervous to try another...

There was a 'minicon' of sorts in my town when I was a wee lad, and we only found out when I had picked up all my stuff. Everything was cheaper there. Grr. And I bought an Amazing Spider-Man issue in which I THOUGHT it was MAN SPIDER versus Dr Octopus. I was wrong. Grr. I picked that over "HOBGOBLIN REVEALED!"... That put ME off...

I'm going to the NAEA convention in Chicago. But I don't think that courts. Alot of artist with alot of art I just shake my head about. I would much rather be going to Wizard World, but I doubt my school would pay for it.

I'm taking my older son to the NYC con this weekend, driving up from Philly -- the best thing will be to spend time with my writing partner, Elayne Riggs and her husband Robin. There will be sushi! yay!
Took my younger son to San Diego last year -- it was his first time attending the Nerd Prom <g> and he had a blast. I'm hoping to take both kids there this year, but right now the hotel situation is just *insane*.
I'll probably also do Wizard World Philadelphia with some friends for one day, at least.
When I was on the con circuit, doing the artists' alley thing, I made the rounds of most of the larger shows (SDCC, Wizard World Chicago, Heroes' Con (my personal favorite), etc.) but health issues have kept me out of the loop for several years now. Still a lot of fun, though.

It sounds like I will be going to Wizard World Chicago. I plan on playing in all the Heroclix tourneys and visiting some of my favorite writers and artists. It sounds like Mr. Alex Ross will be there this year!

Alex was at SDCC last year... the first 2.5 days wristbands were needed to get near him... the last 1.5 days you could just walk right up and say 'hi!'
My favorite moment of last year was hanging with Chris Batista in the bar at my hotel & looking at the original pencils of the Aquaman/MM/Despero fight in JLA!

Ah, Scott has the cool convention stories. *grumbles* Alex Ross is always at Chicago Con! It's like half an hour from his house. I got his sig on my Kingdom Come hardcover a few years ago, but it meant leaving the Joss Whedon line to go jump in at the last second for Ross and then running back to find my wife in the Whedon Q&A! I really want to go to SDCC (and plan to one day) but it's a little scary sounding. It's gotten to be such a big crazy event with the Hollywood types and all.

Actually it sounds crazy, but it's not that bad. Yes, there are 100,000 people there, and yes signature lines can last for hours if you're waiting for an artist to sketch a pic for you. Yeah, you may also want to avoid the autograph area if a big name person is up there... we almost got killed when my wife met Hugh Jackman, but other than that, it is an event that I will not miss. The panels, the toys, any comic you ever want... it's all there. The problem now is that the Con is too big for the hotel situation. Downtown went through a restoration & is now absolutely beautiful. Plus Padres stadium (Petco Park) is just 3 blocks away from the Convention Center now... So when we go, we usually try and get a big room to share with my best friend & his gal. Split the cost... almost makes it affordable! It would be cool if one day enough of our members & creators could go... we could have a DC2 lunch or something! I was actually thinking of making DC2 business cards to hand out... Nothing but our logo, a catch phrase, the web site address: www.DC2universe.com (because the idlewilder one is just a little too long) and something like: New stories & art posted every Wednesday! That would be bad ass...

Somehow, I don't think he'd get the joke...
Of course, he may steal it & redraw it like he did with everyone else's work.

Well, I spent the entire day at Wizard World LA and I have this to report: No Liefield sightings! The Convention was small... very small. About 1/8 the size of Comic-Con, which means this one was actually managable. I don't know how anyone could or would want to spend all 3 days there. We were there from about 10:30am to about 4pm & we saw EVERYTHING twice. I spent way too much money, but got the uber cool 13" Hal Jordan figure (anyone see that thing? damn it's cool & Hal has a removable mask!) & two art prints from Ethan Van Sciver & Moose. Ethan & Moose were incredibly cool & signed every GL thing I bought to them. The prints I bought are 11 x 17, full color signed & numbered. One is Hal stepping out of his coffin in Rebirth (issue 4 last page) & the other was the Batman as GL cover to #9. I did have a short conversation with Geoff John's & a lengthy one with Mark Waid. John's signed all of my Infinite Crisis, GL books & my Hal figure & we talked while he signed, but there was a line, so I was ushered through pretty fast. Mark Waid & I, on the other hand, had a pretty in depth conversation about Legion, 52 & this web-site. He asked for the site address, so hopefully he may stop by! That's all to really report, lots of cool JLU figures are coming, but nothing that hasn't already been reported. One sad note was this: for over an hour Marv Wolfman just sat there with nothing to do. No one came up to him, no one really spoke with him. He wasn't a listed guest, so I don't think anyone knew he'd be there. Only thing I had for him was the TT annual. It was just kind of odd.

Are you guessing he was late or no-showed? What a consummate professional! That would defenitely be cool! Good job Scott. That is too bad. I would've really liked to have met him.

Well I went home for lunch today and was given two tickest to the Detroit Metro Comic Con! So I guess I am going to my first comic convention this year. Also found out that Mr George Perez will be there!
So I have a question about proper edicet. Can you bring books from home to have the writers and artists sign? I would love to take my Crisis tpb with me and possibly one of the last issue's of the JSA, for Mr. Perez to sign. Is that okay, or not allowed?

He'll most likely be at the DC booth (unless there isn't one) and DC doesn't sell comics directly. So, if WWLA was any inclination, take a stack & keep the man company!
