Who has the best style for the Dark Knight? I'm torn between Jim Lee and Micheal Turner, but they are all sweet.

Although I respect all the talent mentioned, I can't deny my love of all things Neal Adams.
It's like eye candy!

well first of all, Turner sucks. its not a matter of opinion its a fact.
on that note, I would like to say i am greatly dissappointed that there is no Jim Aparo on that list. Now I see the other but frankly that's condescending. Jim Aparo is not just some "other", he's JIM APARO. and he's not on the list while MIKE TURNER IS!?!? Outrageous. So yeah, i voted Neal Adams because pretty much everyone on that list has taken the way Adams drew Batman and did it in their own styleanyways. (except Mike Turner)

Aparo was only excluded due to bad planning and a brainfart on my part.

Put anyone you want on it, Neal Adams was the artist who dragged comics out of the dark ages and into being real art. Neal Adams will always be the man.
Turner does not suck, but he is over rated. Tim Sale is a nice change of pace, but not what I picture when I think of Batman. Frank Miller needs Klaus Jansen so can't really count on his own (when it comes to Batman). Jim Aparo was good in his own right. Does Bruce Timm deserve a mention?

I was thinking more of recent "comic superstars" and just throwing out names that I like from the last few years. So the question I geuss is really , "who do you like best that I could think of that I like at the time of the poll" rather tan "who is the best Batman artist ever". Neal Adams is a bit older but I couldnt possibly have made a poll on this without him and not get flogged for it. Especially by artteach who frightens me.

I would have to say Bruce Timm gets my top vote. I think the visual and conceptual work on the various Batman animated incarnations was genius and really dig his art style, especially his b&w inkwork. Dick Sprang is also high up there for me. Pure, iconic, brilliant work. I would also have to agree with Jim Aparo. That was my Batman artist as a kid. If anyone wants art samples for these artists look here: The Many Faces of Batman

In all honesty, I don't understand why Micheal Turner gets such a hard way to go from fans. I think his work is okay for being a post-Image artist but there is a real and noticeable animosity toward this guy on fan boards. A Newsarama announcement can't go by that he's connected to without a number of disgruntled fans chiming in on how much they dislike him. Why? I mean it's not like he's tracing magazine pictures like Greg Land or giving heroes man-breasts like Liefeld.

Oh geez. Bill Finger too. This was not well thought out. You don't have to worry about that. Finger was a writer (wrote the first Batman story EVER). And I can never get over how great Jim Lee's Batman is. He just gets everything that makes Batman so cool.

Jim Lee by miles. Neal Adams may have started it all, but Jim Lee (visually) made Batman what he is today, IMHO.

Jim Aparo. He was my childhood bat-artist too. Hard to stray from the creators who made the real first impression on you.

I think Lee made Batman stylised, but it's not about being the "best" it's about personal preference. I love Turner's work! Lee's work? Not so much. But Aparo is my artist, ya' dig?

Greg Land traces? I know he looks at photoreference (everyone looks at photoreference) but I didn't think he traced. I saw some lesson he did for Wizard magazine and they looked close, but not traced.
Also true proportions do not look good in comics. Even in a photorealistic photo you normally make the waist thinner, the muscles a little more pronounced, and exaggerate poses a little more. I don't know if he runs into a crunch to get things done and traces, but I do know he is also an excellent artist. His Sojourn and Nightwing issues are excellent.
I think this comes down to when someone says Batman what image do you see? I see Neal Adam's Batman running at you. Now for those who grew up after Adams you will probably see Lee, Timm, or Aparo. I have art pencils older than many here, so I see Adams (that is knock on my excessive age not your youth).
When you say Spiderman I see John Romita, when you say Superman I see Alex Ross (his style burnt out previous images), when you say Flash I see Borize.

There have been a number of examples shown in swipe files (like the pic of Reed that is a dead match for a Topher Grace photo). He might be photoreferencing very closely but it looks a little too close if you know what I mean. You can generally tell when someone is tracing. I agree, I really enjoyed Land's style when he was on Nightwing and was more his own, but the Marvel work I've seen, the pseudo-photorealistic stuff, looks uninspired, dry and overwhelmed by the coloring.
