I disagree with a lot of what's been said here. I have never understood how bringing a character back from the dead ruins their sacrifice. Having Barry Allen back doesn't change anything when I go back and read COIE.If anything we now have a character who we know for a fact would give his life to save everyone else and has. I can understand feeling that Wally could fall to the wayside but I don't see that happening. Johns spent entirely too much time writing Wally to do that. The series is called the FLash so I am holding out hope that it will cover all the Flashes in different ways.
I can see your point that Morrison revisited previous concepts on Batman but I think he did so in a way that brought something new to the character. To say that Batman was all of these things adds something to Bruce's psyche I think. I loved RIP and I have begrudgingly become a big Damien fan. I think Morrison's run on Batman has been pretty fresh despite revisiting some of the things from the past. Ninja Man-Bats?! Come on! That being said, I would have liked to see Bruce stay gone for a good three to five years because I am loving Dick/ Damien as Batman and Robin. It should be interesting to see how Bruce and Damien get on and if Damien stays as Robin. It's also not out of the realm of possibility that Dick continues as Batman at least for a time.
Hal Jordan has been pretty amazing since his Rebirth too in my opinion. Has much of it been predicated on the past? Yes, but I think it's been brilliant in dealing with themes and different things from the past that didn't previously make sense and brought Hal full circle from the debacle that was Zero Hour and the destruction of Coast City. Kyle still shines in GL Corps and I enjoyed the Sinestro Corps war and even most of Blackest Night. Neither of those stories would have been the same with out Hal in the fray.
As for Ollie's return, I don't think he was gone long enough to really compare him to Bary or Hal in that way. I personally have never cared much for Conner , especially as a replacement Arrow.
I I;m not sure exactly how old some of these writers are but I would guess a majority of them spent their formative comics years with Wally as Flash(Johns should have been around twelve during COIE) and probably have their own memories of the second generation characters as well. I don't think bringing back some of(or hell all of) the original characters throws out the newer ones at all. I mean Jay Garrick and the elder JSA characters were still around when Barry and Hal came along and I think most of what has been done with those characters over the years has been pretty decent. I odn't think there is any reason that Barry has to be dead for Wally to stand on his own. Dick was a fine character for years as Nightwing with Bruce alive and kicking.
I think a big seven JLA book with Johns and Lee would be totally amazing. I would gladly take a big seven with Dick as Batman if he were along side Superman and Wonder Woman. I have no interest in the League with Mon-El and Donna though. I'm of the opinion that if Superman and Wonder Woman are alive and active they should be in the League, no ifs ands or buts. I prefer my League to be extremely recognizable.
