Well, due to my obbsessive/compulsive nature, I started collecting this title when it first came out, despite the fact that it really wasn't my cup of tea, but I have to say the last two issues have slightly grown on me. Although, I still long for the day when superheroes actually liked each other...
Probably Judd Winnick's fault, somehow...

I am a fan of all Legions... from the old days to current... Although I tolerate this one, I long for my old Mon-El Legion.
Where's Brande? Mon-El? Dawnstar? Blok?
And I too blame Winick... Although I think Mark Waid may have something to do with it too...

This latest issue was better--- this title may be shaping up, but it's got a long way to go.

This issue was ok but not being an old Legion fan I have to admit that I haven't been thrilled with this incarnation. Is it just me or did the first nine to ten issue's feel like the longest set up in the history of comics?

Is it just me or did the first nine to ten issue's feel like the longest set up in the history of comics? I feel the same way, Starlord. It would be a different story if I felt the threat was big enough, but, really, it's just some guy and his (oddly named) group raising cain!

I actually don't have any experience with the LoSH, but I did pick up the TPB of the latest run @ Barnes and Noble over the weekend. I've been reading it in between reading Tom DeHaven's "It's Superman!" and House of M. It's been...interesting...so far.

So the sad thing is that the Legion have now been rebooted too many times and still aren't headed in the right direction? Ugh. Well, there's the cartoon to look forward to....

You know I have always been a huge fan of the group books more then anything: Titan, JSA, Outsiders, Avengers...... But I have yet to find any incarnation of this book that has really grabbed me. Does anybody have any idea's on why LoSH's never seems to really make it?

I wouldn't say that the character's don't have potential, I've just never really seen anyone be able to bring it out in the book in recent years. I like the initial concept: teens from the future with a superfun hangout and far-out space adventures. What's not fun about that? And then in the Seventies it was about the characters and their interactions and in some ways a precursor to all the teen dramas these days (any coincidence the OC writers are big LoSH fans? ha), even if they did have some crazy outfits going on. Then the dark and rainy Giffen stuff. Milleresque before Miller was considered cool. The first reboot seemed to start out okay but seemed to become bland and awkward (Projectra is a snake?). Then the darker DnA stuff. And now the really sanitized looking Waid and Kitson approach. I have never honestly followed the Legion as much read odd issues here and there, but the last few incarnations have just blurred by me as an outsider. The last cool Legion version I saw the one that appeared on the Superman animated series. The sleek Timm designs carried the retro futuristic look really well and the idea of future teens seemed cool again. So, I'm really looking forward to the next appearance on JLU and the ongoing series actually. Even if done in a more TEEN TITANS tone I think it could work and be a lot of fun. I want to see someone make it work but I bet it really is a challenge to sell that brand of sci-fi heroes to a post-Matrix audience. Uh, my two cents there. ;D

My favorite incarnation is pre-Crisis, circa the Great Darkness Saga. For me, it was never so cool as then!

none of the characters are cool. well i mean... there is nothing special anypower anyone can think of they have in LoSH... its ridiculous. Ramon, you call the book ridiculous, but have you ever read it? Not just the occasional issue here & there, but really read it? It's not about the powers... it never was... it was the human drama between these teenagers (once they finally were free of Superboy's shadow). Almost more of a soap opera than a super-team book at times... dangerously close to losing masculinity points here with that statement... It truly was great... and it can be again. Hell, in the early to mid 80's it was the second best selling DC book right next to The New Teen Titans. You don't get that kind of a following by being lame & ridiculous! I would have to agree with David here... the classic costumes, the classic names. Everythign there worked. The only time the re-boot (DnA era) Legion got that close to being cool was during the books final days... This new Legion has potential, but, as with all Waids writing... it's hit or miss. The last few issues have been more hit, which has made me happier... although I don't think I'll be truly happy until I see the return of Mon-El. I do like some of their concepts... Triplicate Girl & 'Micro Lad' for example... While others I don't: Sturn Girl being a mute (understandable... but... no thanks). Latest issue #13 was a cool wrap up to the Terror Firma storyline. Unusual to see B5 emote any emotion... This is a prime example of how well the team can work. Each relied on the others to defeat a common enemy. Very cool. Sorry about my overly-long post... but I am a lifelong Legion fan (second only to GL)... and they take a lot of hard knocks. Long Live the Legion!

Was this a stunt? Or is this a sign of things to come? I temporarily changed the thread title to get everyones attention... I'll change it again with the next issue release when the title officially changes to Supergirl & the Legion of Super-Heroes...
Check out issue #15 of Legion of Super-Heroes.
Barry Spoilers ahead!
OK. That should be enough space.
The latest issue: "Ancient Times" shows a bunch of Legionnaire refugees (for those not in the know, the current series calls all under-agers Legionnaires if they stand up against oppressive authority) hiding out in Metropolis Memorial Park recounting different tales to one another of the Legions exploits (ala "Legends of the Dark Knight" episode of Batman the Animated Series).
There is a tale of the classic Legion meeting Barry Allen, Jay Garrick, Hal Jordan & Alan Scott during the first JLA/JSA crossover. It's fun, yet silly, like so many silver age stories. The second story shows the Karate Kid returning from the 20th century to help Dawnstar, Wildfire & Tyroc take on the Secret Society of Super Villains. They eventually send them packing back to the 20th century. Then the big one:
Blok, Sensor Girl, The White Witch & Quislet show up during the Cirsis on Infinite Earths & rescue Barry before he kills himself destroying the Anti-Monitors big gun. The Legion then stops the gun from firing and place a protective aura around Barry, yet leaving him stranded in the anti-matter universe. The last page in the segment is 4 panels. A large explosion as the gun detonates/ Barry from a distance with a bit of debris on him/ a little closer/ a close up with Barry taking a breath... OK actually he says: *snrrrk*, so maybe he's snoring... but then it jumps back to present time.
So... does this mean that Barry's alive after all these years and trapped in the Anti-Matter Universe? Was it just designed to throw everyone off the scent of what's truly happening? Is it just a cruel joke to play on the Barry lovers out there? Or was it just a fun story?
We'll see soon enough, I guess, but my money is on:
Just a fun story.

Unless that's where the speedsters put Superboy-Prime in IC #4, and Barry gets sucked back when Superboy-Prime returns...

Is this series being turned into Supergirl and the Legion of Super Heroes or is that just a Supergirl thing? I was reading the description of Supergirl and in OYL I think(might be wrong) her title is changing to Supergirl and the Legion of Super Heroes.

You are correct Cheshire.
As far as I can discern, this LoSH actually takes place in our universe or Earth Prime, if you will. Starting next issue (1,001 years later) the name will change when they try and figure out how a mythological being has come into existence. Who is she? Where did she come from? yadda yadda yadda...
I will only truly be happy again when Mon-El returns!

Man. I REALLY hope they bring back Barry. To heck with "meaningful deaths". So, if the Legion is in Earth Prime's future, how did they interact with the DCU to save Barry? Wait, nevermind, don't try to explain. It will probably make my brain hurt.

It would make your brain hurt... because it wasn't the Earth Prime Legion... it was the old Levitz/Giffen era Legion that was actually taking place during the Crisis on Infinite Earths.

Oh. Okay. ;D I'm just going to have to read the series I think, which I am very motivated to do now that I know it leads to a Saving Barry Allen scene!

Found some design sheets for the upcoming Legion of Super Heroes cartoon. These are basic style and conceptual sheets so there's no saying if the characters will look like these artworks or not. My guess would be that we'll get something closer to the TEEN TITANS look in the actual cartoon. Anyway, here they are... www.nuvo.net/blog/wayneb/archives/008473.html

i will say this though there is a definite lack of cosmic boy.

It reminds me of the Star Wars show on Cartoon Network....

I'm not sure what I think yet... It does have elements of Teen Titans & Clone Wars... but it looks more like the Grimm Adventures of Billy & Mandi. I will watch & hopefully grow to love it like I did the Teen Titans (and THAT took a lot of time getting used to).

the bottom designs were done by the artist that designed the star wars ones. so.... it probably should. ;D however it says they were rejected.

Yeah, this stuff looks like it was pre-production art so none of it may be the literal style of the show. I will say as a guess that it will have some similarity to the anime-ish style the DCU is carrying under Glen Murakami (no idea if I spelled his last name right) with Teen Titans and now The Batman, but if they did it Clone Wars style I certainly wouldn't argue. I would also think they are trying to go for the same audience as watched Teen Titans so no reason to stray too far from that formula. Interesting peek inside the process I think. A few of those are pretty cool. The Brainiac 5 sitting with his cup of coffee would make a nice icon.

For the few that may be interested, Mark Waid said that Mon-El would be making an appearance sooner than later!

YES!
He's always been my personal favorite Legionnaire... (when he was called Mon-El--- not Valor, or M'Onel, or whatever lame latter incarnation they tried).
Do you think he'll pick up where he left off with Shady?
