I have to say though... And I've read many issues of this book... Maybe the reason it didn't get the readership you all think it should of... Was because it wasn't especially that good? The concept was sound but nothing about it screamed that I should read it. This book came out when I would buy anything. And I still didn't buy it. It was grim and gritty all over again. Like the 90s had crept back up on me and just slapped me on the face.
Though I am contemplating picking this up ONLY because of the Gaydos art. But even then, I doubt this book could pull me out of my comic-less stupor.

3 and a half years and I've never smited anyone, HoM! Don't make me start now! To each his own. I love the character of Kate Spencer and find that she's one of the more three dimensional characters in the DC universe. The fact that she has family ties with the JSA is just icing on the cake.

But even then, I doubt this book could pull me out of my comic-less stupor. You had to know that this wouldn't go unnoticed right Charlie? I mean, you didn't state an opinion you clearly said that... Maybe the reason it didn't get the readership you all think it should of... Was because it wasn't especially that good?A smartly written book with with tight plots, fresh dialogue, and an extremely original and 'real' female lead character. Sorry but I guess good means different things to different people. Maybe because the book wasn't whoring itself out just to inflate #'s. It was a solid run from start to finish. It only dipped when DC tried to force Marc into whoring out during the OMAC stuff. Thankfully that was fairly brief. You didn't buy it but you read many issues? And you were how old during the grim and gritty 90's? I think it's a weak statement to lump the book into a decade that had its fair share of duds as well as a few shining stars. Some of my favorite titles of all time thrived in or started out in the 90's (IE Starman, Astro City, Bone, Strangers in Paradise, etc). Now the grim and gritty era came out of Watchmen and Dark Knight and carried over into the 90's was an attempt to make comics more grown up and costumed characters less silly. Of course that is a completely different argument that goes a long with the 'speculator market' books that had more variant covers and enhancements then you can shake a stick at. The point I am trying to make is you don't have to like the book and I don't need to justify my liking it by convincing you to change your mind about it. But I think your assessment is unfair and completely without merit. Coming from someone who has never picked up a book strictly for the artist...I can't relate to that. I only pick up books because of writers and or characters and I only pick up a handful a titles every couple of months myself so I am sure I miss out on a lot of cool stuff. But I won't wait too long to pick this book back up again. I do have to say thank you Charlie. I miss the days where you got me fired up about something enough for me to go off on a rant. You are a great sport even when you are wrong.

3 and a half years and I've never smited anyone, HoM! Don't make me start now! You know, I don't think I've ever smited anyone either ---not because I'm half the man Brian is, but just because I find the whole thing a bit assinine... But not half as assinine as Charlie's comment about Manhunter! Along with the new Blue Beetle, Manhunter was one of the best, straight-up cool new-superhero books DC has ever published. Just because it's not "edgy" doesn't mean it's not good. Personally I thought Preacher was crap, but then I've never been particularly entertained by a man getting his balls chewed off, either, so what do I know...

I have to admit here that, I like Manhunter. It is one of the stronger books out there, with really solid character lead, a different sort of female heroine, and I enjoyed some of the chances it would take. There was grit and grime in it, but it was put in because it fit, not so that people would be swerved or shocked. People acted out of personality, not by plot-dictated points, and on the whole, was one of the more solid recent offerings from either company in recent years.
Sorry, Charlie, but I think I have to side with other people that it was that good, but people just refuse to read stuff that isn't "what they already know".
Take care Don

Ok John, I have to admit, I picked up issues when they were in the 5 for £1 box. So I have about... Five issues?
Lol!
(Maybe it was because I didn't like it when she pushed around Dylan. He was ok...)

Though, thinking about it, Manhunter should probably be the one book I have to buy, given what all you guys are saying. It hits all the points I like about reading *anything*, and to be honest, I was just trying to see how many of you guys would leap on a subject

Anyone get #31? I got it back on my pull list... I did. It was a great, engaging read (as per usual). In a week where most books could be read in less than 10 minutes, this one is absorbing and significant. This book has the best supporting cast in comics--- Dylan Battles is quickly becomming a fave! Plus this issue has Iron Munro--- Kate's grandfather!

I've got it, but haven't read it yet. I put it at the very bottom of my stack. I always save one that I'm looking forward to, at the end. And I've really been looking forward to this one!

Im saving it until i finish the TPB that i got for the first 30 issues. So far, this series is better than I expected and Kate is becoming one of my favorites.
I have to thank Brian for that. His portrayal of Kate in NO got me interested in her (along with this guy at work who thinks Andreyko is the greatest writer of all time). So i as well am looking forward to it.
