well, Jay, that's one thing I always admired Stan Lee for..... giving the heroes relationship problems! I don't think that's really explored quite enough in DC these days, so I'm trying to bring a bit of that to Terry's life..... Now, I won't be getting Dana thrown off a rooftop to her doom. (Still hate that that happened to Gwen Stacey) but I will be putting a strain on their relationship like the animated series did, only, I hope to delve a bit deeper into it in good time....

thanks Brian, glad you're enjoying my first full arc on the series! And thanks to you, too, Zirron; glad you decided to check it out!
I wanted the first arc (after the origin arc) to feature a classic Batman Beyond villain, to give everyone someone familiar, but I didn't want to just rip off the shows Spellbinder origin, so, instead, I decided to change it a bit to make it my own.
This arc will wrap up next issue (yes, it's a short one) and then I'll be doing my first completely original arc on the series, and it's going to feature a certain villain that you never saw in the tv series! (just thought I'd toss that out there to build anticipation lol)

great stuff! Scarecrow is my favorite classic Batman villain (Ra's al Ghul still ranks as the greatest villain of all time in my eyes though.) and I thought you captured his character very well! I'd love to see you do more Scarecrow stuff in the future! Kind of bugs me that the Joker has to appear in almost every incarnation of Batman, but you wrote him pretty well, so that's a plus.... keep up the good work!

thanks again for reading, UDC! Yeah, I know this issue didn't have a lot of action, but spellbinder isn't really a character that Batman gets into fistfights with. It's more of a mind-game kind of thing, which I enjoy myself. The next chapter will indeed have more action, but I'm not sure it will have as much as you want. I wanted the first arc after the origin to show Terry playing detective. Showing that, yes he has a lot to learn, but he's not just a dim-witted guy who tries to solve every problem with his fists. So this arc will see Terry a bit more in the detective role.... but it just wouldn't be Terry story without him slugging somebody now would it? -Cam-

I knew Bruce would be dying in FC but all I can say is, they'd better bring him back, and soon, or I'll personally show up and morrison's door and beat him senseless...... and then I'll beat didio just for good measure!

well, Ellen, I think Black Canary is the perfect choice for this mission.... and, despite what was said above, I'd argue that she can TOTALLY handle Bruce's world just as well as Babs or Huntress.... keep up the good work!

abstract way of writing, but that's not necessarily a bad thing.... granted the style takes some getting used to, but by then end of the story I was really digging it..... it was a slow start, but every story has to start somewhere..... looking forward to seeing where this story goes, so I'll be back next month!

my only problem with this issue was the "compression" the rapscallion mentioned..... but at the same time I see where it was necessary.... sometimes if you don't compress it a bit, you'll be left with a bunch of extra bits at the end that you just can't stretch into another coherent chapter...... that said, this was a pretty solid issue, I thought... looking forward to next months

thanks for the feedback, Brian..... sorry it was kind of a slow start, but I hope you'll stick with me next issue when things heat up!.... the reason I didn't put more inner-thoughts in was because I really want this to stand out as Robin's story, that's why he was really the only one with his thoughts exposed here... in the next chapter and so on you will see more thoughts from characters other than him, but I wanted to make sure that the emphasis is on Robin.... this is his story, not Nightwing or Batman, or even the titans, they are the supporting characters and are second to him. This is from Robin's POV and I want to make sure he's the star.

ah, so you noticed the random membership, I see.... the reason I picked those is... well... there are two reasons..... one was I wanted to make sure I had some of my favorite titans onboard (like Ravager)... and I also wanted to make sure some fan-favorites made appearances, even if I don't like them myself (like beast boy)..... the other reason is that, I figure Batman would call in each member with a special reason in mind... think about it... Superboy and Wonder Girl have the strength, Flash has speed, beast boy is a shape-shifter, Ravager is arguably one of the most skilled fighters in titans history, and I don't think I have to explain why Nightwing and Robin are there (I mean "Robin" is in the title lol), and Starfire...well... the titans just wouldn't be the titans without her in my opinion....... and yes, I know the whole "Trigon is going to destroy the world" idea is an oldie but it's also a goodie.... I'm trying my best to make it different from the other Trigon stories, which isn't easy since there are so darn many of them...... anyways, thanks for kind words UDC.... see you again next month!

Ok, before anyone comments on my unusual, off-beat moments in this story, just wanted to get it out there that I was experimenting a good bit with this first issue...... for instance, instead of using a flashback to describe Robin's first (and second) encounter with Raven, I wanted to put it down as it would be heard by the other heroes...... If you were in, say, Flash's place, you wouldn't have a flashback to help you, only the words of the person telling the story and your imagination...... I guess it was an attempt to pull the reader into the story... I dig it, and I hope everyone else does too..... and now, in closing.....
MERRY CHRISTMAS and
GOD BLESS US, EVERYONE!

Ok, I picked up the latest Green Arrow & Black Canary comic two weeks ago and I got totally pissed by what I saw.... my first thought was "wow, norton has upped his game here, and his art no longer hurts my eyes!" then I read a little further and notice that Dinah has been taken hostage by some random thug..... ok, Dinah is easily one of the top 2 best female combatants in the DCU so HOW THE HECK DID SHE GET CAPTURED BY THIS CLOWN?! If anything, she should be saving Ollie's butt..... I swear, if this new writer tries to play Dinah (one of my favorite heroes by the way) as a damsel in distress, I'll drop this book in a heartbeat, then I'll sick my armies of rabid, enraged, midgets to his home in the middle of the night to steal his peanut butter!.... then beat him up...... really, REALLY bad...... ok, now that I've said my bit, what do you guys think about this?

thanks, Brian, glad you liked it! I'm still deciding what to do with certain characters like Huntress... I'm a big fan of Black Canary and Zatanna myself but I'm finding it hard to work them into this title since they would be aged a good bit, so, while some characters may not be able to hold a very prominent role in the series, I'll try my best to at least show what they're up to at some point. wish me luck! I've got a lot of ground to cover.

wow... I can't believe I just happened to pick up the issue of Robin with this in it....... that's pretty rad, I have to admit lol..... now I've got to go through all of my 90's Batman comics and see if I can find anymore of your letters, Jay!

ok, so there's a local used bookstore in my hometown that's going out of business soon and so all of the comics there (some of them really old and rare.... not to mention awesome!) are on sale.... 20 for 10 bucks!! anyways, I picked up an old issue of Robin... #25..... the reason I bought it was because it has Connor Hawke on the cover and I'll buy almost any book with him in it...... anyways, I was reading the old letters to the editor page (something I miss in DC's newer comics) and at the end of the letters I see this.....(this may not be OUR Jay, but I like to pretend it is lol)
"Non sequiter I don't have room to print Jay McIntyre's letter this month, but I did want to squeeze in his P.S., which is in response to my response to his letter from Robin #20. It reads: "So, I've been promoted to 'Old-time fan', eh, Gorf? 'Hey, Uncle Elvis, you seen my cane?' ' I tell ya, Jason Crase, these kids today...'" I think he's flattered."

I figured... just didn't want to make an assumption without proper ground...... anyways, as for oracle, well, Babs never became oracle in the show and I think that's one element I want to stick with....... the others well.... that's tougher to say...... I'm currently planning several issues ahead (I'm already plotting issue #7 on paper) and I have a lot of ground to cover, so don't count on seeing some of those guys (and girls) for awhile.... ..... then again, I could just be pulling your leg..... they could all be in the next issue bwahahahaha!.... ok, so they aren't, but stick around! I'll try my best to at least touch on everyone and show what they're up to...... oh and one last thing........ Max kind of takes the place of oracle in a sense.... in Batman Beyond she was Terry's oracle, so she will remain in that capacity during my run...... don't worry though, even though one or two things will remain the same you CAN expect a good few changes in other areas..... you'll just have to stick around to see them.. (can't give everything away right now, can I? lol).........

erm.. Robin can never become Robin?... I take it that was a typo lol.... anyways, the way I see it, if that character has survived all of these years, it's for a reason.... remember what happened when they tried to replace peter parker with ben reily?... it didn't go over and they had to bring pete back.... they tried putting Dick in Bruce's shoes in the 90's and, all-in-all, it went over ok, but only because people knew it was only temporary..... try replacing wolverine with another character... who can possibly step in for him... I'm not the biggest wolverine fan, but I do realize his importance and think he should stick around..... same with Bruce, he is Batman, and replacing him for any length other than an issue or two is just wrong.... at that point it's not Batman anymore, it's only a second-rate copy....... so I say just take the character to new heights..... Batman and Superman and the big names like that have been around for years... they're legendary and bigger than all of us, so who are we to kill one of them off?

well I was about 9 or 10 when the comic first came out so I picked up a few (although God knows what happened to them lol)
And as for killing off main characters... there are some characters that you just shouldn't mess with... Bruce being one of them, Steve Rogers being another.... I for one refuse to recognize the new Cap as Cap....heck, I even refuse to buy a Cap comic until Steve comes back.... now there are some characters that CAN be killed of and replaced... I believe Hourman has been changed two or three times now..... and Liberty Bell.... but when you try to take out the big ones like Batman or Superman, it's just not right..... Clark Kent is supes and Bruce Wayne is Batman, and at the end of the day, if you try to change that, it's not Superman and Batman anymore.... it's some idiots way of trying to leave his mark in comics by doing something stupid... along with a stupid editor (like didio) who allows it to happen....... that being said, I think the writing pool is richer than ever right now..... characters are being taken to places they've never gone before New Krypton for example)....... killing off a main character isn't a very good way to reduce stagnation.... if that were the case then they'd be killing off characters right and left rather than taking the challenge of trying to reinvigorate the character as it should be.....

yeah, I agree that Dick should be his own entity.... heck, thats what he WANTS to be... and Dick knows as well as anyone that really, no one can fill Bruce's shoes.... he pretty said that in Detective #851 last week (great issue by the way).... he knows he's not Batman and has no desire to try and take Bruce's place, something no one can do properly..... that said, I think we all like Batman Beyond lol.... if I didn't like it, I wouldn't be writing it now for DC2 lol.....
which reminds me... I heard DC worked Batman Beyond into the multiverse....... hopefully they'll give Terry his own series again..... but more adult this time.... the one they had when the show was on was alright, but I'd like one that's a bit darker... yet without becoming gratuitous..... anyone else want to see that?

Post by Ammunition88 on Dec 15, 2008 15:01:50 GMT -5
if that happened (Dick disappearing, I mean) I'd drop DC in a heartbeat... I mean yeah, I don't think Dick should be Batman but the DCU NEEDS him.... he's one of the best heroes' DC has... he has almost as much skill as Bruce and has about a million more connection since everybody loves him..... Either way, I don't think Bruce is gone forever... too many fans would uproar if Bruce was gone permanently and there would possible be death-threats against didio (assuming there aren't any already)....... They tried putting Dick in the Batsuit in the 90's and, even though it was cool for a bit, and I'm a HUGE Grayson fan, I started thinking "ok, when is the REAL Batman coming back?".... so yeah, I don't think Bruce is gone, but even if he were, I don't see Tim in the suit... he's too young and way too short...... I could see Dick in the suit for a few issues maybe but after that I WANT BRUCE BACK!!

hahah, it's official! Kingdom Comics is the greatest! stopped by this week to empty out my box and Jason pointed me towards two boxes of trades (some of them pretty new... like salvation run) and told me that if I bought two or more they were half price!... then there was another box with some pretty rare comics (like "Mitefall" and a few older Flash trades) for 5 bucks a pop! I'm so picking up some new stuff next week! but as for this week, the two new trades in my collection are.......
JLA:World Without Grown-Ups
JSA Presents: Green Lantern (Alan Scott, of course)
