Mazel Tov! Is this your first venture into Aunthood? I think I'm up to 8 nephews and 2 nieces by now, myself -- I've lost count.

I LOVE Walking Dead! If you're not reading it, you'd better start!
Kirkman called out McFarlane...that's the coolest thing I've heard all week! ;D

I missed Harley. Was she the little girl that saw Dante on the toilet? "Don't look, honey."

Little Man? The movie that basically rips off an old Bugs Bunny cartoon? AAARGH, I wish the Wayons family would stop making stupid movies... For those who haven't seen it, be warned: there's a lot in there that could potentially offend you...but it's damn funny. I mean like "fall out of your seat" funny. ;D

Between my hubby and me, we've got all sorts of geek shirts -- comics, movies, bands, video games -- but I can recall only a few odd comments that we've received because of them:
In college, I wore my Legion of Super-Heroes shirt to Art class one day (really nice group shot of all of 'em, with the LSH logo on the sleeve) and my teacher saw it and asked if it was for Star Trek. STAR TREK?!? I could hardly believe it. A picture of kids and aliens in spandex and he's thinking Star Trek? I still don't get that one.
Another oddball: last year, we went to the movies, and hubby's wearing his favorite Playstation t-shirt, and the ticket-taker thought that he worked for Sony. Very strange...especially since we live in Michigan. Every time after that, whenever we go there, he always expects the guy to make another out-of-the-blue leap in logic ("Nice Resident Evil shirt...do you work for Umbrella?")
This is why I wear plain black t-shirts to the cons. That way, the dealers won't make assumptions on my buying habits based on my clothing. ;D

I'm hoping they do movies here and there down the road, and if they don't, I'm gonna cry! The best part was the run-down at the end: if you watch closely, they're running down the steps in specific groups. In no particular order ('cuz I can't remember all of the groupings): - the SSoV (Stargirl&Stripe, Shining Knight, Vigilante, Crimson Avenger) -Golden Age guys (Dr. Fate, Wildcat, Dr. Midnite) -Satellite League (um...I don't remember, but I knew it when I saw it! ) -Detroit League (Vibe, Gypsy, Steel...great, THOSE guys I remember! ) -Giffen-era League (Elongated Man, Booster, Ice, Fire) -Original 7 League (Flash, Martian Manhunter, Hawkgirl, GL, and of course Supes, WW, and Bats finishing it up)

Pretty clever. Reckon I know where I'm getting my 52 info now -- I have no plans on picking up the series regularly, except maybe the ones with the new history in it.

Locked Inside the Facade, most of Crisis, and definitely TQ and the collage threat. Green Lantern has had quite a few, like Hal fighting a possessed Sinestro and taunting "It's called guerilla warfare, asshole!" Or the first time he flew through a space warp and puked on the other side!
I'm sure there's more, but that's all I can think of right now.

The comic shop that I live near had none because (and this is a quote from the store manager): The owner is too damn lazy & greedy. He doesn't believe in free stuff and couldn't be bothered. Actually, I found out that the books aren't REALLY free: the owners of the store have to pay for each and every FCBD book they order, so maybe this guy doesn't have the budget to blow on something like that -- at my store, he limits the copies to 2-3 per person for that reason. And the only other bonus I got that day was Nilla Wafers...but they were yummy! ;D As for what I got, I picked up Superman/Batman (it would be nice if DC gave us something besides #1 reprints ), Star Wars/Conan (which I liked, but mostly for the Conan), a Image sampler called Future Shock (boring!), Owly from Top Shelf (a really cute book, great for kids! ), and a classice Donald Duck from Gemstone Publishing (between this and last years' Uncle Scrooge, I'm actually beginning to like Disney comics again!).

People have allied themselves with certain characters for dumber reasons. But seriously, I like Jay, and who's to say that he can't be rejeuvenated (probably spelled that wrong)? Barry wasn't interesting until he was a martyr, Wally was good, Bart is SO not ready...let's give Jay some face-time. Better yet...whatever happened to Jesse Quick?

And not ANY odd X-Men origin... A CLAREMONT X-Men origin! I love his X-Men stuff btw, he's a master...He was a master... now he's just redundantly boring. I read a put-down of him in TOYFARE recently: they called his recent Excalibur work "fanfic"...wait, maybe that's not a put-down... I'm gonna be weird and say make Jay Garrick the one and only Flash again! Sure he's almost a century old now, but I like his hat! ;D

This is half shameless plug, half public service announcement: Due to this whole "Crisis" thingy coming up, WEIRD WESTERN QUARTERLY #3 is being held back until September. During that month, all the writers that knocked themselves out working on IXE will get some well deserved sleep, and me and a few others will do our best to fill the gap. So fear not, fanboys and girls, the book is coming, just a tad late. I'll tell Jonah you miss him. And in keeping with the point of this thread, I'm excited to see just how the heck these guys are gonna pull this off... ;D

And I'm looking forward to Legion of Super-Heroes, I shined up my flight ring and everything! ;D Gulp... feeling... pressure... Hey, no worries. Besides, I'd rather read it than write it -- I have zero ideas in that direction. And I read Blue Beetle, Circle, and it was good, I'm just not a huge BB fan...though I'm sad he's dead in DCU. Ted Kord did not go out like a bitch, that's for sure!

And I'm looking forward to Legion of Super-Heroes, I shined up my flight ring and everything! ;D

i think susan is getting too famous for us. If it makes you feel better, I promise to still write WWQ when I'm famous...if I have the time...and DC doesn't write me a "cease and desist" letter. ;D Ellen got a better response from LITG then I got from Wizard, though. I'm still waiting for Chris Ward to bring me that sassafrass and nonsense biscuits.

Dangit, I knew I should've made up some flyers for the con season! Too bad my printer's out of ink... Oh, and got here via the DCMB thread requesting writers -- David lassoed me in with his endless praise. ;D Glad to see I managed to drag a few Hex-nuts over here with me too. If I got paid for this gig, I'd demand more money.

I didn't take it as insult, and I've never looked at any of those "How to Draw Comics" books, Marvel or otherwise -- I was once insulted by somebody telling me that I drew like it looks on "Scooby-Doo" -- I'm referring to those general ones, where they always tell you to draw the oval with the crosshairs to map out the face, or just use shapes in general to form the body structure -- I'd sit there and go "Yeah yeah, I know this part, can't you give me something a little more advanced?" My teachers complained that I was TOO cartoony, and that I needed to work more realistically -- this is standard drawing classes, not specifically cartoons or animation -- my explanation of "This is how I draw!" wasn't good enough, and after 2 years of it (and seeing my writing improve leaps and bounds) I quit. It's one of the reasons I don't draw much superhero stuff, my style doesn't fit most of 'em. Of course, I could ape the JLU style now, I suppose... Maybe after I get some more stories in the can, I'll show you guys a "step-by-step" of how I work, scan each stage.

The Dahmer/reindeer thing came from me trying to remember all the dang reindeer names, and coming up with Dahmer instead of Donner. After realizing the mistake, the visual popped in my head and I drew it. I thought it was sick and horrible, but I HAD TO DO IT!
I've got a series of Star Wars ones I did for a few years titled "Wookie Torture", but most of them are in the hands of friends -- they'd suggest dumb things to do to Chewbacca, and I'd draw 'em on napkins and placemats or whatever. I'll see if I can collect some for scanning.
Never found those "How to Draw" books useful -- I'm mostly self-taught, with the college years helping more with layout and perspective than anything else.

Here we go! This one's so fresh, you can still smell the Pink Pearl eraser! Did this for you guys special -- when I have the time, I'll do up the whole Western stable. Bat Lash was just the first one that came to mind, the pose was great (although I'm not happy with the way the head came out): These ones require explanation: I'm working on a book, and sometimes when I'm stuck on a scene, I draw it out, helps me visualize it better. This didn't make it to the final cut exactly like this, but damn, I loved drawin' me a zombie! Also, the odd lines you see are because it was done on 2 sheets of paper, each one set at a diagonal -- I was experimenting with layouts -- it was a bitch to scan and piece back together: This was a mock-up cover I did for a friend -- I xeroxed a copy of the book so she could proofread it, so I decided to have some fun. I used the Jonah Hex cover for a pose reference: That's all for now. Back to writing! ;D

All right, what else we got? Here's Ren and Stimpy, done from reference: Lobo, also from reference (probably Bisley): I've got a schload of Robin doodles, but they all look pretty much the same, so I picked one that I did of him in a LSH-type uniform (bored that day): Y'know, I just realized: all these ones I've posted so far are so frickin' old, they've still got my maiden name on 'em. I promise, newer stuff on the next post.

I told Brandon that I'd put up some of my art, then began to chicken out. Seriously, most of you have me beat by a country mile -- I'm just a cartoonist that dropped out of college to be a writer. Obviously, the writing's good, but I kind of hit a wall with my art ability. Consequently, some of this stuff is pretty old -- I rarely draw anymore, the writing takes up most of my time -- even worse, I found after going through my files that I have very little superhero stuff in there. Therefore, I'm going to make you suffer through a few of my gag strips. Did this one after my stepmom's cat kept shedding black hairs all over me while I was watching TV: Free Period in high school art class -- I just cranked out gag strips during that, drove the teacher nuts: I debated over posting this one -- Hell, there's even a warning label on the picture -- I should be doubly punished for bothering to color it: That's it for gag strips, the better stuff is below.
