[glow=red,2,300]Smallville[/glow]! Guest starring [glow=teal,2,300]Aquaman[/glow] !!!
Wow... did that suck!
I actually found myself screaming at the TV for "AC" to shut the @#$% up!!!
Things that made me want to react violently towards the television:
"Hey beautiful, you should learn how to swim" - AAAHHH!!!
"My name is Arthur Curry, but my friends call me A.C." - AAARRRHHH!!!
"What's your problem bro" (or was it 'bra', couldn't tell through the F-ing surfer dude accent) - AAARRRGGGHHH!!!
I thought that Smallville had turned a corner... that they were actually going to do something cool... Last year they had Bart, which was OK... yet still annoying... this year the promise of Aquaman. And we were left with this steaming pile of sea-horse $h!t.
Now, I can honestly say, I hope they NEVER decide to include Bruce Wayne. I shudder to think what they'd do to the Dark Knight.

Haha! Um, so are you saying you didn't like it?
;D
I thought it was enjoyable. The beach guy stuff was a little much and it seems the Earth-WB's Aquaman is a Rebel Without a Dolphin, what with the temper and breaking into places to liberate his sea-friends. But, there was a lot of nice bits too. I thought the parts with his powers were cool and the more genuine parts of dialogue and not the over-acted ones. He sported orange and green all the way through. And, he had a hand in teaching Clark a bit about the responsiblity of his powers on a larger scale. There was a Superboy and JLA reference which was fun.
That's really it. We got to see Aquaboy and Superboy take on Lex Luthor and I was pretty happy with it. Not perfect but there was definately a lot here to enjoy and I felt like they handled it well.

"Now, I can honestly say, I hope they NEVER decide to include Bruce Wayne. I shudder to think what they'd do to the Dark Knight."
They never will.
I read somewhere that the original plan was for WB to do a series based on a young Bruce Wayne. That conflicted with the film rights though [presumably the film that wound up being Batman Begins], so they changed it to young Superman instead.
This is also presumably why we had a Batman free Birds of Prey tv show.
I say I read it somewhere... It may even have been on these boards. I think it was in SFX though, there was an article where Millar and Gough were talking about season 4 of Smallville. It was really interesting actually. It was an episode by episode account of what they did and didn't like. They were quite brutally honest.

I'm with you Lantern Lad! That proved that it is possible for something to both suck and blow at the same time....what's that smell, smells like . . .fish? No it's not aquaman it's this whole episode. Lame lame! The worst episode EVER. Why in the world was an american idol reject cast in this show? Why? That guy couldn't act his way out of a wet paper bag! I thought this was the season we were waiting for.. .... STILL WAITING!

....but.... there were good things about it.... it's not like he was using starfish like throwing stars or anything.... Aw, I give up.

yeah, I too try to see the good and give the benefit of the dought. Heck I even had some good things to say about Superman the quest for peace. but this....ughhh maybe I could have been more forgiving had it not been for Alan Richardson....ughhh. he just plain sucked.

But he did have some sort of 'hard water' power... Arthur could land a good punch on Clark without having to resort to magic whirly hand movements... reminded me of Popeye.
uck-uck-uck-uck-uck-uck...
So we had a surfer-dude Popeye wannabe for a guest star, that couldn't act his way out of a wet paper bag. And we didn't even get the pleasure of a Black Manta/Bluto from 'da hood'.
Word... dude.

I think they were trying to jazz it up with the water ball power thing. That or the producers were big fans of the 60s cartoon. And the surfer lingo wasn't that heavy. A few "bro"s but he certainly wasn't doing a Keanu. He wasn't the best actor but he did have better acting chops than say half the people Kevin Smith has in his movies and wasn't any worse than some of the other villians and guest stars they have had on the show. He definately looked the part so I think the producers put this above his being a strong dramatic presence. I know I'm not going to convince you guys but I felt like I had to take up for this a bit (and if we didn't care about the character we wouldn't be having this conversation). Honestly, outside the two versions for the Timm DC Animated cartoons this is the best on-film Aquaman we've gotten to date. It wasn't entirely what I would have liked to have seen but inside the context of Earth-WB I thought it worked fine.

But, I also like it whenever an episode of Spongebob features Mermaidman and Barnacle Boy so maybe I'm just easy to please. Ha.

Heh! Well, don't worry, the suckfest that I saw in the Aquaman episode is sure to be outdone by the suckfest of tonight's: Lana is a vampire! episode.
Groan.
She's been a witch, if memory serves, she's even had Clark's power once and now she is a vampire... At least we have James Marsters there to say: "Clark, there's no such thing as vampires..."

Wow... this episode was actually better.
It was done with enough camp to make it funny. Plus the nod to Lucasfilm with project 1138 & one of my favorite songs ever: Bela Lugosi's Dead by Bauhaus.
Good times!

I thought this season was supposed to be "Superman in training" What's he traing for? I'm really dissapointed with smallville so far. As far as I'm concerned they're about to jumo the shark.

As far as I'm concerned they're about to jumo the shark. Haven't they already jumped the shark a couple of times??? I like the season so far...not a big fan of Aquaboy by any means (I liked last season's Flash way better) but definitely a good start to the season. Watching it this season, I realized that between Chloe and Lana, I really really really preferred Chloe as a character.

IMO, Season 1 & 2 were pretty good... I liked season 4 only because of Lois (my God, she's hot), the rest of the season BLEW (I cheered when Jason & his skanky mom got... well, wait, Charley's playing catch up... I'll stop while I'm ahead)! So far season 5, with the exception of the Aquaman episode, has been great. And I am a huge Aquafan, placing myself in a large minority in the world.

Lantern Lad, I'm sure you'll LOVE this Thursday's Smallville (and yes, Lois is unbelievably hot. Which really makes up for the not-so-much hotness that Kate Bosworth seems to be in the movie. How is it that the TV Lois' are hotter than the movie Lois'? Cases in point, Margot Kidder vs. Teri Hatcher, and Kate Bosworth vs. Erica Durance)

This week's episode was pretty good I thought. The Dukes of Hazzard tribute last week was okay, but this ep really picked back up I think. Always fun to see Clark bug out. Are all the other color Kryptonites just going to effect his personality and mental state? Are we going to have a Purple K that, um, makes him narcoleptic, for example? Ha. I'm really enjoying James Marsters this season too. He does a great job and its cool to see him in another role besides Spike. Also fun to see Lex being more of the bad guy this time out too. It is getting kind of cuckoo though trying to keep up with who's keeping secrets from who now. I really do hope we get to see Z. as the big bad this season also. (Scott, I changed the thread name. I hope that's cool.) Oh yeah, WB's considering an AC spin-off. (yeah I know, some of you guys aren't going to like this ) Scroll down on this page to see the source on this early rumor... www.tvguide.com/news/askausiello/

Im really liking Smallville. Y'know they should bring in GL but only if they do it well. I dont know if the budget would cover all the CGI they would need to make him really decent though.
