I think that its a conspiracy against vampires. why? they are out sucking blood at this point, how can they do that AAAND watch JLU? they can't. its on at the same time as their regular blood sucking time. ;D All I'm saying is that this show is on really late. What kid under 13 stays up 'till 11:00 just to watch JLU?

Dude, like vampires don't have Tivo. We're not talking low-rent chupacabras here. The Nosferatu are all uptown and have garages full of TVs and electronics and stuff from their victims.

All I'm saying is that this show is on really late. What kid under 13 stays up 'till 11:00 just to watch JLU? I don't think the the Cartoon network thinks it pulls enough 13 year olds. It might have a dedicated viewer base, but if that viewer isn't going to buy the advertiser's toys, then they have to replace it with a show that will reach the target market. JLU might be a hit, but it's a hit with the wrong demographic.

I tried using some of those sites and unfortunately I'm computer retarded. I don't know how to find the episode, much less how to download it. Oh well I can always wait for the DVD.

I think they sell a pretty steady amount of the toy line as it's still being put out after several years, but again, I'm not sure how much of that is to kids and how much is to collectors. JLU is a solid ratings show for CN, but once an animated reaches a certain number of episodes they tend to get cut off, usually after four or five seasons. That gives them enough shows for daily reruns if they want to put it in a block and also a healthy number of boxsets for the stores. IF they make all the boxsets instead of stopping after one season like they did with Samurai Jack. *grumbles to self*
No, I think CN knows they have an audience and have no illusions who they are. I think that is why the slide to the later, more Adult Swim, timeslot. And is also why they are dragging their feet on reruns as they know that the boxsets of Justice League will sell well regardless.

JLU is like a cartoon from the 90's, before they got wussified, although it still can't compare to Batman: TAS, which had blood, drugs, lots of guns, and people actually died. I miss that show so much.

Update: According to toonzone.org, this will be the final season of JLU . The start time for the new episodes has been moved from 10:30 to 8:30 (probably to get more viewers) but on the same dates. news.toonzone.net/article.php?ID=8523

That really sucks, I was really hoping to see the near apocalypse of 09. I'm really going to miss it. The Bruce Timm/Paul Dini shows had the best voice actors, Michael Ironside, Michael Dorn, Ron Perlman, Rene Auberjonois, David Warner, Clancy Brown, Phill LaMarr, Kevin Conroy, and of course Mark Hamill as The Joker, and many many more. Hopefully Bruce Timm and Paul Dini will make more DC shows and movies in the future.

Yeah, that's terrible news, but doesn't jive with the last bit I saw a few weeks back. Maybe a decision has been made. Marvel would be INSANE not to try to recruit Timm & Co. into making cartoons for them.

I don't think they will though, aren't they kinda into the company that is making the ultimate line of cartoons. I know that they could have timms on a mainstream series but I doubt they would. Plus, they would probably be seen as trying to copy DC, that is something I see marvel really not liking the sound of.

I've got to say I have a lot of respect for Bruce Trimm. He really did bring a lot of interest and new consumers, not only to Batman, but to the entire DC universe. His style is simple, yet compelling. Inviting, yet complex.
But it is 14 years old. (has it been that long?) I would gladly watch more JLU and more Bruce Trimm, but the average kid show lasts two, maybe three years tops. CN have to cater to an older audience in regards to JLU and Bruce Trimm shows. It seem, however, that they are stuck in almost medieval style thinking; that new shows need new style. I don't particularly like the new Batman show (Maybe I'm just jaded and too old).
We need to really take it to CN and tell them that we might be a mature audience but we do count. We are the audience that can really bring a new, and profitable, market to Cartoon Network. Once the CN understands they can make more money off us, than making a new product; they will follow our lead.
PS to KSM, In case I haven't said it before, I like your style. You took a Bruce Trimm inspiration, and made it your own. Your DC2 banner really does illustrate what DC2 is all about (to me anyway).

Aw geez, thanks Doc! ;D Timm is certainly one of my big influences!
It looks as if Sam Register or whoever is in charge of DC animation is going in a new direction and leaving the longstanding and critically acclaimed Timmverse behind.
There are a lot of rumors floating around about new shows. But honestly, if the new Batman cartoon is the example of what is to come.... it's just not as good. The Jeff Matsuda driven Batman cartoon is high on style and just about clueless on characterization and innovation. But maybe this style will mesh better with other DC properties. I have some hope left, but is Bruce Timm is moving on it won't be the same. There IS some hope with the recently announced DTV Superman movie though, even though the announcement wasn't clear on whether it would follow Timm continuity or not.
I really do wish Timm and Co. would move on to work on Marvel properties if they are out at WB. They are obviously fans with SO many Marvel homages and pastiches in their DC animated work. Batman Beyond had all kinds of Marvel in the mix. There were close analogies of Spider-man (Terry himself!), Klaw, Kraven, Fantastic Four, Nick Fury and SHIELD, etc. It's all there, I swear. Not to mention the DEFENDERS stories they did on Justice League with Dr. Fate, Grundy, Aquaman, Hawkgirl, and Amazo.
Again, I think Marvel would jump at the chance (or rather SHOULD jump at the chance) to work with Timm. To get that sort of momentum in animation, to have the boxsets to sell, another toyline to produce, etc. they would be stupid not to.

I don't think so Brandon. I just really don't think they will because it would be like Marvel is picking up DCs sloppy seconds.

I just don't see how anyone (yes, including kids) can perfer "The Batman" over "JLU". If good storytelling is what the audience wants, JLU beats The Batman. If character design and personality is what they want, JLU beats The Batman. If action is what they want, JLU has more action that The Batman. If character roster is what they want, JLU beats The Batman (by far). The only thing I can think of where The Batman would beat JLU would be in the having less similarities to the comics department. I'm confused.

And if it is regards to selling more toys... My friends & I have been buying it all up like crazy since 1992... With the exception of day-glow bat-suits & the like. Maybe if Mattel actually produced (new... that's the key!) toys faster, they'd sell more...
But I honestly don't think that's what it is. Whenever the JL cartoon was announced waaaay back at Comic-Con a few years ago they Timm said they work with 3 year contracts. 3 Seasons of Batman: TAS; 3 seasons of the New Adventures of Batman & Superman; 3 seasons of Batman Beyond; 3 seasons of Justice League; 3 seasons (if that's what you could call an episode here & there) of JLU. Teen Titans broke the mold by having 4 (I think, that one's all over the place as well) seasons though it wasn't based in the Timmiverse. Now we've got LoSH coming & it's not based in any particular Universe, though it's rumoured to be an amalgam of Timm & the TT styles.
I would like someone to explain to me is how Pokemon can last for 10 freakin' years??? That show has been crap since day one. Are kids minds that screwed up? I remember growing up watching Robotech (Shadow Chronicles are coming!!!), GI Joe, Voltron & Transformers... yeah, some are dated now, but they actually had real stories (for the most part) that can still hold up. I don't know about the areas you guys live in, but Pokemon sells less toys & merchandise than JLU.
I know I'm ranting, but I just find the whole thing silly... we're stuck with billions of Pokemon episodes & if we're lucky 13 episodes of DC material in a season.
It's a crime, I tell ya! A CRIME!!!!!!!

Considering that Pokemon is owned by Nintendo, they treat the TV shows (and movies) as a long commercial, selling the programming for real cheap.

I was JUUUST gonna say that. plus JLU has cartoons comics toys and cheapy little games and stuff. Pokemon was an empire. everything was Pokemon for a little while, EVERYTHING! you can't compare the two, JLU isnt in the same league as a national fad.

That's the thing. JLU and Teen Titans both have great ratings. And they are cancelling them anyway. Cartoon Network just has this imaginary ceiling on the absolute length of a run they will produce for an animated series which is about 5 seasons (TT just completed its 5th and final and JLU is currently in its 5th and final).
Didn't they learn anything from SUPER FRIENDS? That show ran in various incarnations for over a decade!

I'll have to find a season guide and double check. JL has had long pauses inbetween seasons while TT came out much faster. I'm pretty sure though that both show are in their fifths.

according to TV.com both are on their fifth season. the thing is, didn't JLU go on a hiatus before returning as JLU? Titans ran pretty solid on a non-cable network, there is the difference.

Post by Brandon on Jan 31, 2006 7:56:49 GMT -5
Well, the first two seasons as plain ol' JUSTICE LEAGUE were all hour-long eps and took longer to produce. I think there might have been a slight hiatus when it went to half hours and changed to JUSTICE LEAGUE UNLIMITED. That plus the fact the TEEN TITANS have been rolling out at the pace of like a season and a half a year and you have both now at season five.
But yeah, solid ratings and successful toy lines for both, but Cartoon Network is replacing them. *shrugs*

Too bad. I'd love to see an ep where the producers pay tribute to the Giffen-era League. That would have been pretty cool, 1701. The did a pretty good Booster Gold ep, but they couldn't use Blue Beetle because of some rights complications, something to do with a radio drama or something from WAY back when.
