I thought this would be interesting to all of us Nightwing fans who believe in the real Nightwing. You know, the one that truly loves Kory and always will. There was a question and answer article in Newsarama today with Dan dido about Crisis and the players and the future of DC's characters, and I found this little bit kind of interesting... Q: I really love all the OYL titles I've read so far except Nightwing. Since Chuck Dixon left the title, it has steadily gone downhill. Dick - a guy who's led super-human teams against intergalactic threats, a guy who was trained by the world's greatest detective, a guy who's spent most of his life going up against the odds (and usually winning), a guy who filled in for Batman - is all of the sudden an amateur who stutters when he comes face to face with a metahuman? He's not prepared when a guy offers him (a known superhero) first punch? Sure, a lot of things can happen in a year, but you don't forget how to ride a bike. Can you guys please start showing this character some respect? DD: Keep reading, there is always a plan. So, we all know what that means, don't we? Me niether...

They need a good Jim Lee run on this title. With a good superstar writer like Morrison or somebody. Just to get the ball rolling. Set the bar hi. After the Grayson run anything above plain awful is better, so the writers not gonna work that hard. But imagine following something like a Morrison/Lee arc. Even if its only a 6 issue arc.

It almost makes you want to weep with joy, doesn't it. Now lets just hope that they extend his time.

There is no doubt about it. Nightwing is finally in the hands of someone who gets him as a character.
"Let me emphasize that I don't see him as a whiner. At 17 that was fine. At 20-whatever, that would be just wrong. He just wants to figure out the role Dick Grayson plays in his life as opposed to the role Nightwing plays."
Hey Charlie! Do you even know Marv Wolfman? There is no 'we'll see' This is a slam dunk! The only thing that would screw this up is if he doesn't get 100+ issues to tell his story!

That interview reads like a checklist of what the fans have been asking for!

Of course I know who Marv Wolfman is, John! I'm just afraid he'll be mandated to do a specific thing with the character, maybe with Jason Todd too, so it might be bad. But I hold out hope!

Charlie has a good point. It seems to me that Didio doesn't like Nightwing, from some of his past interviews. I mean he wanted the guy killed in the Crisis! Wolfman may be walking into a situation where he is told what to write.
I would hope, though, that if this was the case, Marv would have enough personal conviction to flip them off and walk right out.

And even more tellingly,
It's a good day to be a Nightwing fan!

Can't wait for Marv to come and straighten this title out, but I can't help but feel he's been painted into a bit of a corner.
The latest issue, in particular, was especially bad. I liked the direction Dick and Babs were headed in, but it shouldn't have invalidated the one he had with Kory (but suddenly, that 20 year relationship, which got closer to the altar than his with Babs ever did, is downgraded when Dick confesses he only ever loved one women--- cut to a tearful Barbara Gordon...?).
The art is terrible as well.
I would almost say that DC resents this book, and that only it's sales is keeping it alive (though why fans are still buying, me included, I can't say why).

Just got done reading #125, and what a wonderful change. It wasn't the greatest story ever written, but it was the most enjoyable Nightwing I have read in years. I'm so glad Marv has been put on for a year.

So what did everyone think of Nightwing Annual #2?
I thought it was good, but there were a few things that I didn't like about it.
Spoilers
Up until the past few years I've thought of Dick being more committed to his relationships. That was really torn down with the scenes that referred to his relationship with Starfire. And he was especially cold when he ended up giving Babs his announcement about his engagement to Kory, after sleeping with her. To me that really tore up his relationship with Kory, which was very important in his transition from Robin to Nightwing. It made it seem like he didn't really care about or love Kory.
I hate it when Bat-writers do that.

"The Second Coming of Marv Wolfman" did nothing for me. I picked up his first issue and from then on, I only read his run sporadically in the store. Seriously, it was so hyped up to be this amazing return to form, and to be honest... Nope, nothing. But now Tomasi and Rags and Blair? Tomasi wrote Light Brigade. Light Brigade was drawn by Snejbjerg. Snejbjerg drew Starman. Before Snejbjerg, Tony Harris drew Starman. Tony Harris' art reminds me so very much of Rags. Rags is drawing... Can you see where I'm going with this? Heh. So not only is the new writer of Nightwing one of the most promising writers writing right now (DC seem to see this too, putting Tomasi on GLC, Black Adam, this, and whatever comes next or what I've not mentioned) and one of the most respect [former] editors in the medium, the art is by that of the Identity Crisis team! I am contemplating picking this book up now. Talk to me.

I was a bit dissapointed in the Wolfman run as well, but compared to what we were getting before that... it still took Nightwing back to a better place then he had been.
But the new team is really terrific and I'm enjoying this series more now than ever. And since you mentioned it, I'm also enjoying The Black Adam mini a great deal.

I liked the Wolfman run. The first arc was fun and well written (if only I could remember what it was called...). Although when I first saw the preview to the 'Bride & Groom' storyline I thought "Oh no, I hate the sound of that", it didn't come off too badly and was, overall, pretty entertaining. Much better than Countdown!

Did anyone else really enjoy this last issue of Nightwing? In fact, the last two have been some of the most enjoyable that I've read in years. I hope this is continual upward swing for my childhood hero!

It's been since February that I've praised this book, and six months later I'm proud to say that this has once again returned to the top of my reading pile. Please let the powers that be keep this team together for a while.
also, Waid's take on Nightwing in the recent Brave and the Bold has been awesome as well.

Hey, y'all, quick question: I've heard that as an "Easter egg" of sorts they put an NIV and various CD's (Jars of Clay, dcTalk, etc) in NW comics once or twice before, in his apartment, I think. Pretty sure they were earlier issues. Anyways, I was just curious... anyone know what issue(s) they would happen to be in?
