Big news on Birds of Prey--- it seems that Gail Simone is leaving the book! According to Newsarama, on her recent trip to the DC Comics offices in NY, Dan Didio offered her something too good to turn down, but for which she has to surrender BoP to incoming Marvel writer Sean McKeever (although why she couldn't have dropped Gen13 or Welcome to Tranquility is beyond me--- maybe there were some office politic at play, and BoP was the carrot used to entice McKeever, and to mollify Simone, she gets offered her dream project...). Any bets/guesses as to what Simone's new project is? She's often stated she'd love to get her hands on Wonder Woman, and it would be fitting if the best female writer working today (though that statement works almost as well w/out the qualifier) was at the helm of DC's top female hero... Of course, there is the new rumored Black Canary/Green Arrow series, too. I dropped the book a while back (Winick !), but would pick it up again with Gail in the driver's seat... Lastly, she has expressed an interest in the Marvel Family, as well, but it looks like another writer has his mitts into them for now (Winick !)!

I just popped over here to make the same announcement. I was depressed when I found out. I don't read Gen13 but I would hate to see her leave Tranquility. After BoP, that's my favorite book of hers to write. I do think Sean may be a good choice. He did awesome work on She-Hulk. Of course Jones did great work on Hulk and we all know how Nightwing turned out. As for Gail's new project. If there is a god, then it will be a GA/BC ongoing. I would love to see something along the lines of a Mr. and Mrs. Smith sort of book. If anyone could write their marraige without weakening either character... it's Gail

Dan Slott wrote She-Hulk.
Sean McKeever wrote... Mary Jane Loves Spider-Man.
And other stuff.
Gravity! I liked that.

I think that Gail Simone is going to be writing JLA after Meltzer leaves. I don't know, it's just a feeling to be honest...

I'm going to have to say Wonder Woman after Picoult's run.

I believe that she is going to follow Meltzer's run on JLA. I believe to write more Black Canary is the reason or maybe she'll follow Winick's run on Green Arrow. But I hope Winick stays on GA.

actually issue #75 will be the last issue of Green Arrow. The book will be cancelled after that. Although there are rumors that there will at least be a GA/BC mini that will deal with the wedding.
That's why I'm hoping Simone gets her own series with the two of them. But you might be right about JLA.

So, what does everyone think about this whole Black Canary/Green Arrow fiasco? I personally hate it. Gail did such an amazing job in establishing Black Canary as in independent, strong, and self-assured woman, and then "this other guy" (lol that's my name for him) comes along and disregards that like it's yesterdays news and being a strong female is out of style.

Yeah, I have to completely agree with this. I was a huge fan of their relationship back in the day, but after they let Ollie ride off the rails, and then spent a long time letting Dinah kind of fall apart and then build herself back up with Barbara and the Birds, it seems to me that this whole wedding thing is a large, and sudden, step backward for her. I'm very disappointed, though I suspect I'm in the minority, but that's okay. I'm often in the minority.
I just hope that, if they must do this, they don't weaken her character, and that she remains strong and dynamic, and keep her equal (if not superior to) Green Arrow.
Take care Don

I think Ollie is going to die.
I do.
We've all seen the covers to the new series, haven't we? With Conner and Dinah on?
I think they might kill off Ollie. Or have him blown up. Or tortured. Or kidnapped.
Something to totally throw this on its ear.

If Gail established anything with Oracle, Huntress, and Black Canary, it was that they didn't need a male counterpart to survive and flourish.

I personally won't be reading Green Arrow/Black Canary, if Winick is not writing it nor will I be reading Batman & The Outsiders. I guess I and pickup two other Marvel books instead. I I don't know if KD will be collecting the GA/BC herself or not, but that is out of my hand. Mischief

Winick also established that Green Arrow is now a better man and he did it out of love for Dinah. And Deathstroke whooping Dinah and Ollie's ass is not making her weak, it's showing Deathstroke's ruthlessness. Deathstroke proved that he can whoop the League's ass in Identity Crisis. I don't think Dinah marrying Ollie will change her character into the damsel in distress character. She is the leader of the damn League now.
I love both Gail's final issue and Tony Bedard's first issue, especially Batgirl's and Ollie first meeting.

I don't think they're going to kill GA again. I just don't see it happening. But what I thought was weird: SPOILER WARNING!!!!! GA and BC get married, one of them is revealed not to be who we thought they were, and tries to kill the other one on their honeymoon night. Is it just me, or does that sound familiar to anyone else.

BIG BARDA IS DEAD! Okay, so if you look back at my previous posts you'll see how objective I was to her joining the team, but now that she's gone, I miss her to no end! First Black Canary, now Barda! And she didn't even die in Birds of Prey! Yes, Birds of Prey is a B-list book, but critics love it and the fans are loyal as hell and I just hate that DC feels nothing in the book except for Oracle is off limits! The team feels so hollow now. Yes, Huntress and Zinda are still there, but, as much as I love them, I don't think they're strong enough to support this whole book.

I couldn't agree with you more. What was once a book about the unity of these very strong women, has turned into another team book, without that spark that they once had.
I'm not saying the book isn't still enjoyable, because as long as Huntress is there, it always will be, but I do think you are right on the money. It's lost something... or perhaps it's just my mourning for Gail.

It's lost something... or perhaps it's just my mourning for Gail. I think I'm in withdrawal too! The book is still cheeky, but it's not Gail Simone cheeky. I'm going to have to start eating comfort food when I read this title from now on. Dark chocolate and perogies here I come!!!

Oracle is going through building a new team without Canary. She is working with new operatives and she has that new Bird in training, Misfit, who is too impatient. She totally screwed up. Cause Big Blue shows up and talks down to Oracle and her team.
Misfit is clearly being shown to be immature and impatient, oh and wreckless. The interaction between Barb, Misfit and Black Alice was funny. Especially when Barb sent Misift to her room. Misfit needs a timeout and and ass whoopin'

Birds of Prey has been one of my fav titles thanks to Gail. I have followed the series every since. As of right now its really got me on the edge of my seat. Reason. one word. Joker. Just finnished the latest issue and with mr. J on the scene this series just got that little twist of the dark that I think its been missing. "I wonder what the postage is for a severed head to Gotham?"
