I liked his character, and Robinson gave him depth, and now another of my semi faves is dead!

Well, this is comics. You know that sooner or later he'll come back.
I just hate it that it's become such an institution at DC to start killing off characters to punch up all of these crossover events. Even as far back as the 80s CRISIS, was it really necessary to kill Kara Supergirl and Tula Aquagirl? Both were great characters whose only crime was not getting used to their full potential at the time. We just wound up getting imitation Supergirls for almost 20 years and I'm sure there are those who would still like to see Tula pop up again. As much as I loved Barry as the Flash as a kid, his was the only death that seemed to work.
And so on and so forth over the years, the JSA deaths in Zero Hour? Pointless and poorly executed. Green Arrow's death? Just a messy bit of storytelling that took years to clean up. Queen Hippolyta's death? Absolutely no reason for it at all. Tim Drake's Dad? Why exactly was this necessary? Sue Dibny? That was an above and beyond the call of duty bit of character killing there. Can't any superhero married couples just be left alone to be happy?

Well we can correct all this!
We can have a Aquagirl! A Supergirl! And we can make it work!

Here's an interesting and encouraging bit of rumor from 'Lying in the Gutters': www.comicbookresources.com/columns/?column=13*SPOILERS* " MarkWaid has stated that the current "Infinite Crisis" and the surrounding darkening of comics is not part of a trend that DC intends to follow, but an end of the road to that sort of storytelling. He writes, "The good news is, and I guarantee you this, when we're on the other side of the CRISIS, those days are GONE. Just gone. We're sick to death of heroes who are not heroes, we're sick to death of darkness. Not that there's no room, not that Batman should act like Adam West, but that won't be the overall feeling. After all this stuff, after everything shakes down, we're done with heroes being dicks. No more we screwed each other and now we must pay the consequences. No, we're super-heroes and that's what we do. Batman's broken. Through no ONE person's fault, but he's a dick now. And we've been told we can fix that."
Certainly an intriguing and interesting twist from what readers have been expecting, given current DC fare.
Not all of DC's editorially influencing creatives feel entirely the same way as Waid. Grant Morrison is on Mark's side, naturally. Judd Winick and Greg Rucka take a different view. And Geoff Johns can play to both sides equally.
But with "All Star," "Identity Crisis," "Countdown," "Infinity Crisism" "One Year Gap" and "52," DC have proved themselves experts at presenting a united, unified and cohesive creative front to the public. Makes a nice change. Can only be for the good.
There are some talks about a more mature readers superhero line at DC to compliment a new direction from the rest of the DC Universe. But talks are all they are for now. "

Sounds like a change for DC.
Who knows, they might even do something crazy like selling their comics in supermarkets and convenience stores again!

Gotta say, I was completely underwhelmed by all of the Infinite Crisis minis--- except for Villains United. Ironically, this is the one I though I was going to like the least. But, thanks to Simone's superb writing job, we got perhaps the best single comic of the year (thus far) payoff-wise, with something cool on every page. Cheshire's manipulation of events... Scandal's revelations... Deadshot v. Deathstroke...! Luthor and Pariah... Mockingbird... Parademon and Ragdoll... And that last scene in Venice...! The characterizations in this book were fully realized and three dimensional (My god, who'd thought? Catman?!?). For this alone (even if i didn't already follow her on BoP and Action), I would be a devoted fan of Gail Simone. She has my profoundest respect.

Yeah I heard that, but I also heard: (highlight to see potential spoiler)
[red]Batman becomes the human host for the Specter and either Dick Greyson or Jason Todd pick up the bat mantle.[/red]
There is a foreshadow of it in Infinite Crisis #1. Could also be a red herring though.

Ha! The latter would really make fanboy heads explode all over wouldn't it. I heard the same thing though but with the Bruce... (highlight) ...being locked up in Arkham Asylum.
I really do think they are going to make it a point with the OYL to make all the main titles "All New, All Different".

Villains was by far the best, but I liked DoV as well. The other two were blah to say the least.

Big spoilers below...
Cover your eyes if you don't want to hear IC rumors...!
I'd like to see Wally retire to raise his family, and an adult Bart wouldn't make a bad Flash... But I hope he isn't killed off!
I even think that Bruce Wayne as the Spectre is just the thing to make that character vital again--- imagine the pathos!
Of course, Batfan fans all over the site are now booing and hissing at me, but I would even venture to say that Dick Grayson would make a pretty good Batman himself!
I don't think DC is willing to so drastically alter their state of affairs, though to make this change--- at least on a permenant basis.
Just as long as they don't kill off Hawkman again...

Dick Grayson would probably be like Bruce was 20 or 25 years ago, driven and dark but not a crazy a-hole. I could deal with it, but you KNOW it's temporary.
I would say the only untouchables in this whole affair are Hal Jordan GL, Green Arrow, and Hawkman because they went though so much to make the characters commercially viable again. Oh sure, they killed Hawkman already and he was all eviscerated and everything but you know that's temporary too.
I haven't picked up IC #1 yet as I haven't had a chance to drive across the bridge to my comic shop. But the bad part is that I already know what the big spoiler is at the end. How can you have the internet and not know this one already?

There is a reason why Perez is a Legend among Legends. He was brilliant in the seventies, the eighties and nineties and he is still going strong today. I kneel before his talent.

Ok. I was just wondering everyone's opinion on what they thought some of the most powerful moments were in IC 1? ****SPOILERS**** ***REALLY BIG SPOILERS***** OK, YOU'VE BEEN WARNED! Mine were, The last words of Phantom Lady. "Why". Great panel all the way around. Batman's comment to Superman. "You haven't inspired anyone since you died" paraphrased but it was a powerful moment to me. The big one for me was the last line at the very bottom of the last page: And eternal gratitude to Marv Wolfman and George Perez for building the foundation that all super-hero epics have come from. Am I a total geek to admit that it got me right in the heart? What about the rest of you?

"...The last time you really inspired anyone... was when you were dead."
That was an awesome line, Starlord.
Yeah, my favorite crossover ever is Crisis on Infinite Earths and so I knew this was going to have to be pretty darn good to live up, but so far I think it's doing a great job!
